Hey weepul, unless you were using spray paint, this type of "respirator" would be essentially useless. It does not absorb (or adsorb) organic vapors (such as solvent base in paints), it only removes "nuisance" particles.
The "N95" designation indicates that it filters out 95% of the airborne particulate matter >0.3 micrometers in diameter that is free of oil mist. For comparison purposes, the respirator used for protection against airborne lead, asbestos & mold spores is typically identified as HEPA which is at least 99.97% efficient at removing particles >0.3 micrometers in diameter.
