bleuiko,

I'm going to check out hypermart. What I want is a place that can transfer my domain name (that I'll buy elsewhere) for free. Free hosting ideally without an ad bar. Fairly decent size limitations. At least one email@mydomain, and not a limited amount of site traffic. I've heard of people being killed on bills after their site got a bunch of traffic. Not something with which I want to deal. I don't need CGI/PERL script now, so that's not a priority. I would take all of this for a nominal fee without the ad bar. $35 a year is fine. But $15/month is not. Thanks for your help.

Ben:

If all you really need is webspace and a free transfer, i suggest going back to doteasy.com. They offer transfer for $35. This is how i understand their plan:

1. You pay $35 for a transfer and FREE lifetime hosting. (This equals out to a FREE transfer and $35 for hosting... whichever way you look at it, only 35 bucks... i'm not quite sure about how much badwidth you get though... you might want to check with them for that.)

2. Alternatively, if you can get 2 friends or other people to sign up for doteasy, your $35 transfer fee will be waived. (FREE transfer and HOSTING!!)

Good luck! will post more when i finish this stupid paper on affirmative action...

"www.yourdomain.com Web Hosting
20MB Web Storage
Unlimited FTP Access
Unlimited Email Accounts (user@yourdomain.com)
POP & Web-based Email Access
Email Forwarding
Email Autoresponder"

It looks like I'll just pay the $35 fee, unless there are randomly 2 other people who want to get in on this.

Edit:
"Q: Is there a limit on the traffic? What is the cost for extra bandwidth?
Doteasy does not have set bandwidth and traffic limits as long as usage is within reason. We reserve the right to determine what is "reasonable" and what is not. In all fairness to other clients, accounts found to be exploiting this priviledge will be terminated."

So what is reasonable?

A: "Hi, 2GB would be a rough estimate. However, we cannot guarantee that
because we only concern that the other clients' site will not be affected by
you. Thanks!

2GB seems reasonable. I thought I should post this so everyone else knew.

I just registered my domain name over at www.doteasy.com. I must say, it was a pretty straightforward and easy application process. Everything went fine. Total charge to my AMEX via private payments was $38 for 2 years and FREE web hosting. Thanks for the info guys. Save me some $.
