Paypal has partnered with Equifax to offer equifax's credit monitoring service for free.

According the the FAQ, there is no set termination date for this service.

Apparently this can be done w/o logging into paypal as well.

Wow. I'll be interested to hear what others have to say. Anyone used it yet?

the only two alerts it seems to give are if your credit card use increases b X$ or if your balance change by X%. I was hoping it would let me know when people were accessing my credit report...but that doesn't seem to be one of the free features.

I can't link to the FAQs. You need to be logged in to access the info.

From the FAQs
What is Equifax Credit Alerts for PayPal?

Equifax Credit Alerts is a program that helps you protect yourself from identity theft. By signing up to receive Equifax Credit Alerts, you are notified when someone opens a financial account in your name or when a significant change occurs on one of your existing financial/credit accounts. Please note that this program provides you with alerts for financial and credit accounts that you hold outside of PayPal (for example, bank account, credit card account).

This program also provides you with a free Identity Protection hotline if you believe your identity has been stolen.

Those are the only alerts that you can modify or choose not to receive. The ad on the link says the following:

"Equifax Credit Alerts for PayPal ? Free!

Early warnings: Automatic notification through email in the event there?s an inquiry to your credit file or there?s a balance change."

Because of that statement, I would ASSUME, that they notify you if there's an inquiry to your credit file

NOTE: Funny thing is that I never logged into my paypal account to get the deal.... it automatically redirects you from the OP's link once you click the sign up banner. You do have to log into paypal to get FAQs for some reason.

NICE. Then there should be no worries about paypal getting any credit info when signing up then.

Hopefully so, since there are probably many people who don't feel like giving Paypal their credit info to be able to use an external monitoring service.

Looks like a bait and switch. In the Paypal site, it does mention that you will get "Automatic notification through email in the event there?s an inquiry to your credit file or there?s a balance change".

However in the Equifax site, it makes it very clear that you only get 2 out of the 11 alerts. Those 2 being "credit cards balance increase by $X or "credit card balance increases by by Y%". When signing up, they try to get you to upgrade to their Gold or other serivce, where you can get the rest of the 11 alerts.

Let's see - I'll let you know if I ever get a credit inquiry alert. I doubt I will.

Doesn't seem to be working for me....? When I hit submit on the 3rd step, it just sits.... If I hit it repeatedly, it goes to some product page.
