EDIT: nmd, that was the developer's edition. I had no idea what this was but since it was free I dl'd it. Linux os...okay whatever, it's free.

I had it running on a 633 celeron, ran just fine. I didn't like it all that much, but it is free. changed to suse linux 8.2 pro, much better for me.

I didnt care too much for linspire .. I like Mandrake the best but Suse and Fedora are also good

I've got it running on my HP Omnibook 3100, a 233mhz laptop w/ 96mb of RAM. It's a little sluggish but it works - even recognized my Netgear wireless card.

Well every company has to make $ - some make it on Support, some on Apps, etc. Linspire is probably making nothing on sale of OS, but make it on subscriptions to their warehouse of software apps. They present a very easy-to-use desktop Linux where your hardware is recognized (usually) & everything works, clickety-click. No tarballs, no tweakin the kernel, etc. Just pick your program & click - its installed and working.

Oh and there are using some type of login for the ftp that is unique for each user also.

You can install SuSE for free. Just get the netboot ISO off their site and start installing. Sure, you don't get some things that come on the disc because they aren't free but what you do get is the equivalent of any other free distribution.
