Taco Bell is giving major league baseball a chance to feed America.

During game three of the World Series, if players from either team hit the 12' by 12' Taco Bell target, everyone in the U.S. will win a free Crunchy Beef Taco.

"With strong home run hitters from both the Red Sox and the Cardinals, nearly 300 million people just may have the opportunity to think outside the bun and win a free taco," said Taco Bell's chief marketing officer Greg Creed in a statement.

It says they bought insurance to cover the cost of a free taco, but wouldn't most people come in to eat and get a free taco, then order 1 or 2 other things as well, basically off setting a lot of their cost? Who the heck gets full off 1 free crunchy "beef" taco?

Exactly why it is profitable. Not only do they get compensated for those tacos, they make loads more off everything else they sell.

they did this sort of thing before, in which when one of the satellites was projected to land in the ocean, if the main body hit the floating platform (i think somewhere in the atlantic ocean), the entire world gets a taco (naturally, it missed)

taco bell also used to give away tacos to all the spectators at staples center (when the lakers were on their way to their first trilogy championship): if the lakers scored more than i think 116(?) points, the whole stadium gets a taco. i think this happened once or twice, so they changed it so that if the lakers win with less than 70(?) points, then everyone gets tacos.

They did it with Mir. The put the target off the coast of australia and if a big chunk of Mir hit it, then we all get a free taco. But Mire was projected to hit about 1200 miles west of australia, and the target was only about 20 miles west of australia so....

They put the target fairly far back in the stands, so it's pretty hard to hit.

I got a free krispey kreme because I was at a LA Galaxy shutout. They never asked for my ticket stub though, so I probably could have gone back/gone to another one.

I think they're assuming not too many people would be cheapasses and drive around to different taco bells just to get a 99c taco. then again I'm probably grossly underestimating the general populace.
