Freespace Silent Threat $3.99

Yep MarkM, you beat me to the punch. From what I can gather:

- FS1 is all that's included on the Hot Deal disc.
- FS2 is required for the FSPort of FS1 on FS2 engine.
- FSOpen is opensource FS2 engine, which might(?) be used to run FSPort without having to buy FS2.
- My head hurts.

As always, corrections welcome.

I have two suggestions, both are a bit expensive:

1) Ch Products USB Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals -> ~$300

2) Used Microsoft USB Force Feedback 2 - no longer made but you can find them on eBay

Man, I remember when I bought Freespace 2 a couple years ago for 1.99. I bought one for myself and one for a friend. If I would've bought 100 of them it would've been the investment of a lifetime.

I started messing around with this today.

First off, you need a FreeSpace2 CD set. You also need the latest official patch.

Once you've got FS2open running, you can get FS1 + Silent Threat running in the FS2 engine. Google fsport. And yes, you do not need the original installation media.

"Freespace: The Babylon Project" is standalone now and doesn't require the Freespace 2 installation media. I can't believe how awesome that mod is. You can download everything that you need to play here.

This is totally cool. FS2 was the pinnacle of space shooters. Best Graphics (at the time) best audio, best storyline, best (by far) voice overs. I mean Friggin Beam Cannons!!!

I can't wait to try it out with improved eye candy. Though I'd much rather Volition Rise Up and create a third installment

What happened with interplay property. Freespace, Fallout, they should have been on top of the world. tsk, tsk.
