freeware alternative to dameware?

I've used some variants of VNC but they all required that the user download and run a file, I was looking for something I can install on their workstations and then just pop in whenever I need to... like dameware.

In case you haven't used dameware, it allows you to seamlessly connect to another workstation. you move their mouse, they see what you're doing, etc.

VNC typically means having them run an exe file to allow you to connect.

RDP locks them out which is really annoying if you don't know whether there's a human being working on that PC at the moment.

Crossloop needs to be downloaded too but I have had a lot people install and use it and it was painless to use. A caveat tho might be that it requires 2 people to use it.

I am pretty sure Remote Assistance allows you to connect to another workstation and have them see what you are doing.

A lot of people have problem using Remote Assistance due to firewall issues where as Crossloop will connect without needing to configure it. It also have drag and drop file transfers.

It also requires to be installed which requires admin rights, otherwise it would be a really awesome product, but in most cases the user wont have admin access and wont be able to install it.

Dameware also requires to be installed afaik unless there's a version you can "push".

You could also try gotoassist but from what I heard it's super expensive (we use it at work) but they might have some different packages that are not so expensive. It's fairly stable though.

VNC does not require the user to download anything.

It requires a single install and can be setup to allow remote access w/o the users clicking anything.

In fact its commonly used to connect to devices w/o anyone even there.
And yes, VNC can be pused so a user does not need to do anything.

If you have admin rights to the machine, then you can push the install without user intervention.
