Hi friends, i have recently changed my plan from mtnl 2mbps to 8mbps. ever since the change has taken place i have been facing disconnections every 10 mins. during the day the disconnects are not not bad but after 5pm its virtually impossible to get a stable connection. I have an mtnl provided adsl2 router. i have tried to change the annex to m as well but its still bad. the snr margins have gone down from 24bd (on 2 mbps) to 6-8db. I was able to get a steady connection with 2mbps with no disconnects at all. Speeds are good during the day and at evening it fluctuates. My provider is insisting on line bonding since i am 1.5km from the telephone exchange. But will this resolve the issue? or i need to ask them to check the line... im sure the splitter is fine...thanks in advance...

i had a ton of problems with the MTNL provided combo modem/router. It was a d-link i believe. Once I replaced it i had zero issues. I was on a 4mbps plan at the time.

For those wondering - MTNL is a government run ISP in India.

It might be stable at 2mbps, but it's not capable of stability at the higher speeds causing your issues.

Before buying anything, I would see if there is a software or firmware update available for that ADSL router that might resolve the issue. I had a TPLink wireless access point that would disconnect everyone every hour or so and was ready to send it back and buy a new one when I found that a later firmware version addressed that exact issue and it's been 100% rock solid ever since

Thanks.. unfortunately there are no firmware updates for this modem.
One last question though.. just in case the router is fine, will line bonding resolve the disconnection issue? Or it's simply meant to enhance speeds?

Have your ISP check your line. Chances are they are pushing it beyond what the line will support. It could be the line, bad/missing filters, or just distance from the DSLAM. If your max rate is say 9mb, and they set it to 8mb, it will drop off and retrain on you.

No firmware or settings in the modem will fix that..

Line bonding wont resolve connectivity issues, but it may mask the symptoms a little bit. Think of it this way: if there's a huge accident on one lane of the road, adding more lanes to the road doesnt clear up the accident but you can get more cars past it without being inconvenienced by it.

I'd push this back to your ISP and have them escalate it until you get them to do some real troubleshooting instead of basic tier 1 lip service.

 thanks for the tip... will push it further to the exchange manager to sort it out now...
