yeah i did play BF1942 on my integrated GF2MX at 1024X762 with all max setting and it is quiet smooth with only occasional slow downs or during a massive Xplosion.
I aslo play Operation Flashpoint and Tennis Master Series 2003 all w/o a hitch. The Presario 6000Series using AMD proc all comes with an empty AGP slot unless u customize it urself.

yes your friend is a moron. if he buys the BEST PCI card available he WILL NOT be able to play bf1942. no way. how much does this HP cost? i am afraid to find out....lol

I would return that prebuild system and help him build one. I know for a fact he will be more happy with it. No matter what PCI video card he uses in that prebuild system. It's not going to play the new games very good and maybe not even at all.

about 80% of store bought computers have onboard EXTREME graphics and many of them are top end HP's decked out with 1 GB ddr memory and a 3GHz P4 promising high speed gaming performance, cuz it's got the fastest intel chip in it, lol, they assume that no one has any idea what a vid card is, and they assume right, the general public is really stupid when it comes to buying a PC.

I knew a guy who was pretty poor and got the hookup with a 1.8 ghz Celeron w/ 512 RAM and a 40 gig harddrive EMachines. He only paid like $200 (Because he knew a manager at bestbuy), but the comp didnt come with an AGP slot. So he picked out a PCI GeForce 2 MX 400 and he says he gets much better performance over the integrated graphics.

OK a short story here as well:

Some time ago a friend of mine was about to buy his first real PC (before he owned some junked 386 or so with Hercules monochrome, he said it's great for kids still, heh) , so he can play the latest 3D shooters & flightsims like I do... I was telling him "wait till I'd get some time, we'll sit down, plan a bit and build something cheap but fast"; of course he didn't wait .... went ahead on his own, made his supersmart decision and blew up all savings on the system suitable for light office use .... this was a year ago or so, and he got 1GHz Celeron/128MB PC100, ASUS board i810 chipset - of course, no AGP slot His machine is NOT suitable for anything else then internet browsing or 2D scroller game.... now he's stuck with it; extra PC-100 RAM or PCI 3D card won't do much better..... forgot to mention, he got the 15" 1024*768 capable monitor (old good CRT) with the rig as well; what a deal nobody can resist I could imagine ..

He can't afford to buy a new PC for another year or two; what a sad story, but some people just need that lesson.

A good PCI video card will OWN normal integrated video (i.e. Intel Extreme Graphics). Not too sure how they compare against Nforce or Nforce2 ingrated video, though.

Sorry way off. You're talking about the old 810 intergrated graphics, the "Extreme Graphics" are updated and can match up with a MX200.

But there are plenty of games that don't demand the latest technology. Like for instance... solitare!

Just kidding. But anyways, intel extreme grahpics can play the ocasional game at low details. If your friend is a serious gamer just slap in a PCI Geforce4 MX 440 or a PCI 9000 pro and be done with it. There's no need to make him feel bad about his purchasing decision.

But all of you people calling him a moron are likely to piss him off. I don't see the point of posting 'He's an idiot' where this is a thread to convince him to buy another computer.

Oh by the way. War3 plays pretty well on Intel extreme graphics.

If he already bought this computer hasnt he found out it's impossible to play any games made within the last 3 years yet or is he just going to play Rollar Coaster Tycoon, lol, I REALLY doubt that BF1942 or UT2003 or Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 will run at anything more than a slideshow speed. If the extreme means it's like GF2MX200 that means it should be equal to a tnt2 as that is the lowlyiest of geforces..

The thing is, Tabb didn't ask for 100 posts telling his friend "how dumb he is". He asked for "100 posts telling him why he should return this computer". So far, there has only been 1 with both statistics AND first hand experience. There have been a few other anecdotes about integrated video and PCI suckage. Other than that, saying he's dumb doesn't a convincing argument make.

here's reply 99, i made the same mistake, but 4 years ago in 1998, when i wasnt completly aware of the importance of 3d accelerators, so i later put in a PCI vid card, which considering it was a Celeron 500 wasnt a big deal cuz it was a Voodoo 4 PCI and overpowered the CPU with out even trying. But my selection of vid cards was very much limited, did I leanr from my miustake? Yes, would I ever buy onboard again, NEVER! Would I ever let anyone I know intending to ever install a game buy a PC with it? NEVER! Dude you just can't let him keep that PC it's best for his wallet and his next couple years of enjoyment of a new PC!!! Don't let him end up being a console gamer cuz he cant play games on what he considers to be a top end PC just cuz of the CPU!!!!!! U just cant! I'm not going to say he's dumb, just uninformed, now computer sales people at many stores, that's a different story....
