I was testing some OCZ Platinum the other day in an old system I use to test parts. (Go Figure) This system was literally caked with dust all over the fans and the heatsinks, it came off like a dryer sheet. Temps dropped literally 10^C or more. If you're not using dust filters and you haven't cleaned your computer in 2+ years you may want to give it a good spraying with a $5 can of compressed air, it will help a lot!

Another friendly reminder: your face comes with a very good entry-level compressed air solution.

Ha . I have a 120mm intake fan on the side panel of my Coolermaster, whose purpose, aside from lowering temps, is to suck in every molecule of dirt within two hundred yards of my house. So I clean mine out about once per month.

All of my new systems have dust filters, literally for like $2-4 you can outfit your entire system with them from SVC.com and then just give them a quick once over every so often.

Decided it was time to clean up the testbed. Heh

funny story. so, for some reason, my dog really likes to eat dust. in some ways its kinda good. you know, less vacuuming. but its really not good for her. anyways, i had this 8 year old computer sitting on the floor open, because i was taking it apart. i went to get a screw driver, and when i came back, my dog had her head inside the case, and she was chewing on mouthfuls of doghair and dust. it was insane.

It's all about the vacuum.. I prefer my very powerful miniature computer vacuum. It sucks out even caked on dust within heatsinks, etc.. I never use compressed air, but it's definitely the more affordable way to go

LOL. When I got my PC parts last year, I had my case open to drop the mobo in. I walked to my desk (which had the assembled mobo, CPU, and RAM), turned around, and the damn cat was sleeping in the case. I had to vaccuum out the case before I even put the PSU in it!

LOL. A few years ago I had a computer running with the case open. From across the room I saw a mouse walk into the case. As I was getting up to investigate, I heard him hit the case fan, then saw him run out at the speed of light.

I've seen the dust filters without little thought about them. Somehow after reading your message I'm going to try them. My house (an old one) is quite dusty. If they do there job it will be worth it.

My old case ( just changed them) had a window in the side, and ofcourse i loaded it will blue LED's and fans .
Well it worked very well as i used to find tons of little bugs, like sand flies in it. I had my own bug killer. Even saw some spider webs in there occasionaly .
