from 8800gts (320mb) to...

hey good looking people from around here.
i've always asked around here before buying new hardware, and you did counsel me well.

so now i have a geforce 8800 GTS 320mb.
up to now, it served me quite well. but i know that sooner or later i will have to change it.
and now Age of Conan is coming out soon and that's a game i know i will play for a long time.
i want to be able to run it hiiigh, as well as all the upcoming goodness (Mass Effect, Episode 3, Alan Wake... w/e).

so what would you propose?
i have to admit that since i bought this one last summer, i pretty much stop following the updates in video cards.
now i hear about 9800 and 9600 and it seems that they're not even that better or i don't know.
and i never knew anything about ATI cards.

should i get something like a 8800 gtx or gt?
a 9800w/e?
i looked around on the forums and people seem to love the GTS 512mb. is it much better than my 320mb?
for the price, i'd say 400$ max since i can sell my card for about 300$.

just tell me what you think, or a brief update on the video cards hierarchy from the last couple of months

oh and the rest of my computer is :
pentium dual e2180 2ghz
2gb of ram
windows vista ( :'( )

At what res do you game with i.e. 1680x1050 etc.?
The 9800gtx may be the ticket since you have that kind of cash in hand.
8800gtx is quick becoming a dinosaur right now so do not even think about getting it.

I seriously doubt your going to sell that card for $300. Right now you can get them for around $144 on Newegg. See here.

Yeah, the 320mb GTS' arent worth much these days

I stepped up from one to a 512MB GT for free - thanks eVGA

I'd wait a bit if you can stand it. The 9900 series should redefine things in a few months.

You also need to either oc your processor or upgrade it if you don't oc.

Depends on what res you game at. 1280x1024=9600GT 1680x1050=8800GT or GTS above that 9800 GTX...

no, it's the same card, the only difference is that you are guaranteed to get that higher clock on the ssc. realistically, the 9800gtx is supposed to be a good overclocker so the vast majority should oc quite a bit higher than ssc speeds anyway.

ahah and for the selling, i go on Kijiji. usually people that go there are like afraid to go on ebay or whatever, they want to get their product themselves. so it's always easier to raise prices a bit i tried to see, and ive already got an offer for 275$.

oh well i intend to play mostly around 1280x768, or max (but not really) 1440x900 (as in BioShock, i could only play 1440, strange).
but seriously, would i see that much of a difference if i switched video cards right now? like would i see a big difference with a 8800 gt or 9600?
if i overclocked my cpu and card, could it help?
