i will expand;
AC1 is an absolutely brilliant - if visually horrid - game, because it has all the components that *i* want in a game.
1. it doesnt hold your hand
2. it doesnt tell you anything you shouldn't know
3. it's happy to let you fail .. spectacularly. Caught in a dungeon and out of ammo? TOUGH !
You get this mech that's made of components you can buy, own and swap, and you can make very different mechs; mechs that rip with 6 machineguns but cost more in ammo than you get paid. Weaksauce mechs that only use energy weapons with no ammo costs. Ludicrous battleground-wiping mechs that come with SIX missile shots. Mechs that can fly. Mechs that can barely jump. Mechs with 9999 armor and the maneuverability of a slug.
And AC1 is happy to let you grossly miscalculate your loadout and fail the mission from the START sign.
it also has VERY large maps, and exploration will lead to rewards and easter eggs.
AC2 had *zero* of this. It had very nice looking mech models, but none of that f* you attitude in the game design. Tiny maps, average maps, and a fear of letting the player fail the tiniest bit of content.
..so.
i bought AC2 hoping to get more of that AC1 goodness, and i was very disappointed. I cant fathom what happened, idk 15 games later, but, be warned, the series got dumbed down very early on.
