I haven't had much time to dedicate to gaming lately outside a little COD4 so I was curious to see what the opinion of the gold version of this game is. I understand from limited reading the beta had issues and some of these still exist in the release version.

I've been looking forward to seeing what the old DC team was capable of putting out and would think judging from how they babied Desert Combat that this game would get similar treatment.

For those of you playing it how does it rank?

are you talking about frontlines fuel of war? I played it on my xbox 360 last night.. It is pretty arcade-ish.. Kind of like Kill the enemies in this area and then move on to the next.

Overall I must say I wasn't too impressed.

I haven't played it in a few weeks, but the beta wasn't anything that special when I did. It felt too arcadish, as nboy22 said. It didn't have a really gritty, war-ish feel to it. It felt kinda like UT3 and Battlefield 2 had a bastard child.

PC version feels like a console port, if you don't mind that, enjoy, if you hate that slow, fakey feel that comes with a console-to-PC port, like they ported it, then you should stay away.

It's a shame, looked promising, but it's not going to replace BF2 or TF2 for me.

Yes!

I was really hoping this would be a good game but it seems that isn't the case.

Nope don't like that and sorry to hear! I've been following it and thought it would be pretty good.

Thanks for the input!

Can you help me out with what that means ?
I only pick a game now & then to play (still playing BF2 here), but this looked good in the TV commercial. How does that mean it feels compared to something from the BF franchise ?

go on youtube and look at ingame footage, then compare to BF2/TF2/CS. You will see the difference.

Whenever I play a FPS made for the PC and then play an FPS made for a console that was ported over to the PC, more often than not, the controls feel more stiff and unresponsive than if they were originally designed with a keyboard/mouse in mind. I think they do it because of the natural limitations that controlling a FPS with a gamepad present, and then they never really go in and expand that control when they move it over to the PC. It's annoying to me personally, it feels more arcady than a PC native FPS. I felt it in CoD 4, although CoD 4 was awesome on the PC, you could still feel that it was designed originally to be controlled with 2 analog sticks. In the case of CoD4, they actually did some work to make it more responsive on the PC, I don't feel like they took the time to do that with Frontlines.

Hope that helps, not hating on the game, it seems fine, but the PC version was sadly considered as an afterthought to XBox 360 players.

Yeah just try playing Gears of War on a keyboard... most frustrating experience ever.

Frontlines.

It's based on Unreal 3 engine. It doesn't do AA but you can probably get around that.

Had no problems here. Besides the game just not being the awesomefest i was expecting after the reviews/accolades.

This has the potential to be really fun but it's not as polished as COD4 or BF2 (with its multiple patches). The game is made by the guys who initially modded BF1942 into
Desert Combat. The game in it's current state is choppy and buggy and hopefully with some new patches and more servers it can potentially live up to its promise.

You can force AA by adding the FFPW.exe to your nVidia program file in your control panel and tell it do 4X AA and 16 AF all the time. I'm getting 60 FPS playing on high settings @ 1680 X 1050 (it's beautiful)

They need to release a MP demo for sure.

From what I've seen, it looks like it plays like ET-Quake Wars.

Also heard that it is buggy. They should've spent another 6 months with it before releasing it then.

I personally found Quake Wars to be pretty awesome and it's a shame it didn't sell well. Granted I prefer more tactical combat, but I started with games like Quake so I still enjoy a fast paced shooter at times, and the various classes and unlocks are great.

It plays very similar to ET-QW. Honestly, ET-QW really needs a flood of new maps to keep me interested. I've yet to play a game where it didn't involve the stock maps shipped with the game. It's been quite awhile since the game shipped, where the F*CK is the custom maps?!

ETQW only stayed on my hard drive for 45 MINUTES, what a waste. FFOW has potential granted it's arcarde-like but it blow QW out of the water.

Got a reviewcopy, first thing that annoyed me was the sound during installation. I want to listen to some music or whatch the latest Lost episode, not listen to that lame 'music' for god knows how long it took to install, 15 minutes perhaps ?

Yes I agree the install was kind of long only bout 10-15 minutes for me but some of my friends claim it took 45 minutes. The only thing I don't like about the game is the config re-binding issues. If you change your control settings from the default WASD you get exit a vehicle or remove yourself from a mounted gun, very lame and KAOS should be ashamed of themselves that they haven't fixed it yet.

I want this game, badly. I played it on a PC for about 20 minutes and I'm HOOKED.

I'd also buy Quake wars, if I could manage to find the damn game for 10 dollars at Target like some people have said in Hot Deals! I don't think I'd pay more than 10 dollars for it, though.

Well i like it better than Quake War , most people bashing it , hasn't played it long enough. Its a great fun and i think this what BF2142 should have been.
