Frustrating laptop network problem

This is really strange...I have a wireless network in my house, and whenever I am using this laptop and one of my neighbors' networks comes online. my laptop kicks me off my network to let me know that there are other networks available. Drives me nuts, because during peak hours, it can happen every few minutes.

I use Windows for networking, and I have already unclicked the "automatically connect to non-preferred networks".

Any ideas on what I can do to stick with a connection once I have connected? This is driving me nuts.

enable SSID broadcast on your router/AP

It was already enabled. This isn't a router configuration issue, the router works just fine, and none of my other wireless devices or laptops has a problem. It's only this computer.

Change the channel on your router/ap to 1, 6, 11.

Or just use the client utility provided with your wireless client. windows supremely sucks with supporting wireless.

The router channel isn't the problem. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the router. It's an extremely strong signal because it just goes through a floor and the router is ten feet from my laptop in a straight line. The router is not the issue.

There was no client utility. This is a Compaq laptop, and the wireless card was built in. The computer uses windows for wireless.

there IS a utility, what is the h/w?

Is the SSID still "Linksys"?

The SSID is not default.

that is either an atheros based card or broadcom, I don't remember the HP numbers anymore. I would check, and download either the broadcom utility, or the ACU to see if that helps. I'm not a big fan of WZC (in fact, I never use it)

Kinda hard to download anything when you can't stay connected for more than a minute at a time.
