Without reading the entire thread, Kentucky Fried Movie is pretty funny. Its more 70's-80's humor but there still is some pretty funny relevant stuff (the whole Bruce Lee/Enter the Dragon part)
Police Squad! persecutor to the Naked Gun Series are fun too. All the same actors in a TV format

I tried to watch that about 59 times and never made it all the way through.

I bought this movie on DVD 8 years ago. I haven't finished it once yet either. But I haven't tried more than a time or two. We're talking about Being John Malkovich.

The Thief of Bagdad (1940)

This movie really tripped me out as a kid. It's magical, funny, full of power, adventure, romance. Makes Disney's Aladdin look like pablum. Genie escaped from bottle:

Does Half Baked count?

Having a hard time understanding what is meant by quirky:
characterized by peculiar or unexpected traits

Spaceballs?

Seriously though, what is this? So, comedies that are not cookie cutter?

Spaceballs is absolutely my favorite Mel Brooks movie, and I think it's certainly quirky, at least in places... haven't seen it in years. One reason it works so well for me is Starwars does not work well for me, and believe me I tried. I bought the Starwars DVDs in several versions, trying to discover why people were so nuts about it. Spaceballs works so well by virtue of satirizing Starwars.
Fish Called Wanda
Spaceballs
Princess Bride

Any one of those I could watch over and over.
Good selection there!

Airplane and the Naked Gun series (from the Police Squad show) were probably a few of the best. They were beginning to end, funny. Too often, when filling 1.5-2 hours of back to back skits in these movies, they tend to run out of material or actually tie up the loose ends of the storyline too quickly without doing it gracefully.

Mel Brooks made a bunch that were great. Silent Movie, Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Spaceballs, History of the World, Part I, and Robin Hood Men in Tights to name a few...

National Lampoon's movies...Animal House, Vacation, Christmas Vacation, European Vacation, Vegas Vacation.........maybe Van Wilder....but not necessarily any of the others. Many are thrown together just to make money off a previous movie's success by repeating a storyline and cutting the budget of the sequel.

Harold & Kumar movies.....

The SNL-cast movies are great too...Ladies Man, MacGruber, Wayne's World....then the Austin Powers movies, Chris Farley, and Will Ferrell flicks....etc. They're hit or miss as well.

Too many of the quirky comedies are just a collaboration of skits and lack greatly on story or filler. An example would be when you don't recall what the story was about, but only can remember 1 or 2 scenes of a movie....it was probably poorly done.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but if you look at quirky rather than funny, both Time Bandits and Brazil get honorable mentions.

I liked the next Coen Bros. movie, Raising Arizona, more than Fargo. RA was definitely more "quirky."

The Big Lebowski was the next Coen Brothers movie.

Raising Arizona predates Fargo. (by 10 years)

I grew up in L.A. and have lived in CA almost my whole life. The Big L does not touch my funny bone. It might send up Hollywood, but I was there and the movie's portrayal doesn't ring true.

I find Coen Bros. movies interesting to great, and my favorite is still Fargo. It's anything but a comedy but has its funny moments, I guess, and by intention. I think it's interesting to note that Fargo was set and filmed in the Coen's back yard, where they grew up. The Big L was certainly not.

well, that's just your opinion, man.

Lebowski is their greatest film, ever.

Winner, this film "slipped under the radar" so to speak but I thoroughly enjoyed it, rent it if you get a chance..

Quick Change - definitely a great flick and very under the radar for a Bill Murray flick

*Muse chuckles*

In my mind Fargo is the CB movie that comes close to perfection.

Edit: I just did a lookup at Rotten Tomatoes and they agree with me. Fargo scores 8.4/10, The Big L scores 7.2/10, it's not even close. Don't take it too personal if I piss on your rug.

quirky also means odd, strange or weird.

watch Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid as it is definitely quirky and funny.
