Hi,

Looking at a Dell system that has an FX 5200 upgrade for $50.

The PC I am replacing has a TI4200 in it that I could move to the new PC.

I know zilch about the FXs. Is the FX 5200 a better card than the TI4200?

TIA.

4200, any fx besides 5900u is a waste of money. i had a 4200 titanium Chaintech and a PNY 5600nu, my 4200 was much better compared to my 5600.

The 4200 is a much better card than the 5200. As azntiger0586 said, the only FX worth the money is the 5900u, which is over 400 bucks, so its kinda not worth it

I need to buy a GF4-ti4200 128 mb...

I'd like to get the best deal possible pricewise, but stick with a decent quality brand. There are a lot of "no-name" cards out there. Steer me right! I don't necessarily need to O/C the heck out of it either... just a good stable card.

Thanks.

With lower end cards like this the goal should be not to use AA or AF but just to get the best framerates possible. I agree that the 5200 series is a waste since you can get 4200 or even 4400 series cards that perform much better.

the 5200 has capabillity of a cross stitcher

i could go to the primary school at the top of the road and the kids would be able to colour in the frames with more speed and detail than a 5200

Dx9 is a redeeming feature sometimes, but in this case its no where near redeeming.

I've seen benchmarks of the Geforce2 MX o/ced beating the hell out of the GFFX 5200 in modern games. That's right, NV11 blowing away NV34. Stay away from the GFFX 5200 as far as you can.
