Hello when I first turn on my computer, it is 33 degrees C and goes up to 42 within the first 10 mins is this normal I am using the stock cooler. Should I let it sit on for awhile longer? (I am waiting on my windows 7 and video card) I tell the temps by using the mobo bios.

My mobo is an asus m5a97 le R2.0.

Until you boot into the OS the processor is running at full speed, so it will run hot even when idling.

Alroght so its running cool now almost to cool though its odd core temp picks it up as runing like 13 degrees is this a glitch?

its also not staying at 3500 mhz its jumping from 1400 to 3500 is this normal?

For whatever reason the idle temp readings on FX processors are really odd. But as the processor heats up it becomes more accurate. So if its reading 14C dont worry about it, you can guarantee its probably around 30-ish.

And going from 1400 to 3500mhz is normal, thats just cool-n-quiet downclocking your CPU when its not doing anything processor intensive, like sitting at the desktop or web browsing. As soon as you start something even remotely processor intensive it will immediately go up to 3.5ghz and stay there until you're done.

These readings aren't accurate temperatures per se.
AMD calls them "non-physical temperature on an arbitrary scale measured in degrees"

"Instead, it specifies the processor temperature relative to the point at which the system must supply the maximum cooling for the processor’s specified maximum case temperature and maximum thermal power dissipation”
source

So basically it means your fan should be running at 100% when you go above TCaseMax
which is probably something like 72c

It depends what superio chip you have on your motherboard and what readings it provides.

The odd balls 0-TCaseMax reading is the one directly off the AMD cpu.
If you can get a reading from something else it'll be under the cpu, your chipset, or something else depending on your motherboard.

I can't say which is the best temp software, they all do pretty much the same thing.

I see your 42 and raise you 74 on a Haswell. No but really, those are fine temps.

also note that the "temperature" in the bios is likely to be higher than in your OS because the powernow and other stuff isn't enabled yet.

What program do you use to measure the temps ??
Since you have an ASUS board, i would suggest to use the ASUS Probe II.
