3dMark2001 10X7X32, high detail: R9700Pro: 13400 FX5800: 12400

UT2003: Couldn't tell the difference at my normal settings, 11X8X32, high details, 4X AF. Added Quincunx AA, still worked fine, looked great. Not as good as R9700Pro at max detail, but I didn't play at those settings due to speed issues anyway.

Spiderman:The Movie: Looked, played great.

That is all the gaming I've done.

Of note: I don't think the fan has kicked into gear while running games or benchmarks, 400/400 must be cool enough. I have heard it, it turns up at boot, it's louder than the 9700, but not annoying. (it's not FlowFX, new design)

So far no regrets going from 9700 Pro to FX5800 Rogo. Like I thought, you have to crank up AA/AF/res to level I didn't use with 9700Pro to see difference.
(I'll collect my $5 after a week or two if I feel the same. )

msi has the best bundles ive ever seen, all kinds of stuff to play with even if the games arent that great

Let me know what other games you will run through (and did you benchmark and save your scores from your 9700 to compare or is this "seat of the pants" benchmarking?) the new card.

I'm still game for the bet

I might just have to ask for some empirical data here!

glad you enjoy it (i might pick one up too this summer)

Sorry Rogo, I don't have any old benchmark scores from the 9700.
I really like the FX5800 so far. Do you remember in the old days people used to say the 3dfx cards may not have had higher fps, but had a different "feel" to the gameplay? I might say the same.
I have no doubt the 9700Pro would win most AA/AF benchmarks, but one thing I noticed firing up the venerable Q3 Team Arena is running at 16X12 eliminates a lot of the need for AA.
Kingpin looked and ran fine.
UT didn't run at all in OpenGL or D3d.

I release you from the bet, because "being disappointed" means different things to different people. For me, the 5800 ddin't have to be faster at the highest AA/AF settings to succeed it just had to match the performance of the 9700 at the resolutions/AF levels I'm used to playing at, which it seems to.

I'd give the 9700Pro a slight edge over the 5800, especially for games other than first person shooters, for it's stellar AA/AF capabilities. The 5800 definitely competes though, and is more than powerful enough for my gaming needs. If the Doom3 situation remains the same, I would rather own the 5800. The only shortfall it has I've found is that it's slower at maxed out settings.
