From my experience fancy ram is not worth the $$... At todays prices you can get 8GB of ram that will take you to 3.6 for what you are spending on 4...

Yes that G.Skill set is a great choice.
I own 8gb (4x2gb) of it with an Abit ip35-e.

Shame Newegg doesnt ship to you, its WAY cheaper from them. ($114.99 vs $149.99)

Anyway, its great memory.

But sgrinavi is right also, you can get DDR2 800 ram that will be good up to 3.6ghz/ 1:1 with your Q6600 cheaper.

Wow, just looked , and ncix.com has high prices on any 4gb (2x2gb) pc6400/ddr2 800 kits too!
That sux

If you can buy from other places i'd take the time to look if i were you, you should be able to find 2gb sticks cheaper.

So are you wanting to run your RAM 1:1 w/ the FSB or are you going to push your FSB as high as it will go, then use dividers to put your RAM to its max? Are you going to run 1:1 but use a low multi? Whats your angle here?
My point being, that if your just going to run your ram 1:1 w/ the fsb DDR2-1000 is all you'll need (500*9=4.5GHz). [DDR2-800]400x9=3.6GHz and depending on your Q6600, you may or may not be able to achieve that. I'm willing to venture any DDR2-800 RAM will overclcok to 850 or 900 w/ loosening timings and/or a voltage bump. 425*9=3.8GHz, 450*9=4GHz. So if you can pick up a DDR2-800 kit up there for $100-110[4GB kit], go for it.

You should get a 4GB kit, unless money is an issue.

The Ballistix should do 1066 5-5-5-15 @2.2v no problems. I've had a set at 1066 for nearly two years. Man this stuff is cheap now. Geez..

You're Canadian but don't know how & where to find the best deals on stuff in Canada?!

Read the links & learn, young n00blet

NCIX has sales roughly every two weeks.
Subscribe to their newsletter: http://secure.ncix.com/newsletter/

Or you can also click on the glaringly obvious flash banner at the top of www.ncix.com which links to the current sale.

Or you can shop at their cheaper half, DirectCanada.
Once again, they also have sales, see banner at the top of the page:
http://www.directcanada.com/surprisespecials/
Great prices on 500+ GB HDDs in there presently.

And to do more price comparison, use these price comparison shopping sites:
http://pricecanada.com/
http://www.shopbot.ca/
http://pricenetwork.ca/
http://www.pricegrabber.ca/
For Canadian deals forums, go no further: www.redflagdeals.com/forums

Now to get to your concern here, RAM:

G.Skill 2x2 DDR2-1000 5-5-5 = $118
http://www.ncix.com/products/i...e=G.SKILL&promoid=1019
DDR2-800 5-5-5 version = $100
http://www.ncix.com/products/i...e=G.SKILL&promoid=1019
Don't mind MIR?
OCZ DDR2-800 5-4-4 = $90 AR
http://www.ncix.com/products/i...echnology&promoid=1019
Patriot DDR2-800 5-5-5 = $80 AR
http://www.ncix.com/products/i...echnology&promoid=1019

That should cover your 4+ GB needs quite well.

Rams bus speed set to default 800mhz in bios possibly, might have to change it to 1067mhz.

I've been using the G Skill 1000's for about a month with a 6750 running 1:1 and overclocking. I know I'm actually underclocking the memory but who cares it runs great.

I just bought 8GB of it from the Egg. Who'd have thought a year ago you could buy 8GB of DDR2 1000 for $229 shipped.

This is what i am considering as of now...its flashy too =D

Eff no!

Unless you really like tweaking & OCing to the max (which by all your posting thus far i can tell you don't do), don't spend the same amount on 2 GB as you could for 4 GB.

Sure, you'll get a few extra point on the 3DMock score with that RAM, but there's just no reason not to be getting 4 GB these days...

If you're running 1:1, you can get 3.6 GHz out of a Q6600 @ default DDR2-800 speeds.

If you really want to to run 4:5 or higher ratios, then get the DDR2-1000 kit.

For $115 at newegg, is this a good buy? also, has anyone had experience running at ddr2-800 w/ tighter timings on these sticks?

Indeed.

That kit will do DDR2-800 4-4-4, & up to around DDR2-1100 if your lucky.

Key to clocking it well is setting TRFC nice & loose, like 48+.

Hey N7! I tried out 7x500 on my system and it would POST but not boot into Windows. My normal setup is my sig. I'd also already tweaked my NB voltage and I dare not increase my VID any further. Have I hit an FSB wall? Or would increasing TRFC help in this case?

Also, how do you get away with mixing Mushkin and G.Skill in the same system?

What system specs are you running to try for 7x500? The P5E-VM?

That's pretty amazing if so.

You'll usually need additional FSB & NB voltage, & obviously enough vcore to hit that.
And not all motherboards/CPUs can do 500 MHz.

I could do that with some of my CPUs on my mobo, but not with others.

I wouldn't necessarily be trying for 7x500 1:1.
I'd rather go for 8x438 4:5, though that will be really pushing things with your G.Skill (DDR2-1095).
If your mobo does 5:6, that'd be ideal for 8x438 (3.5 GHz) 5:6 (DDR2-1051).

High TRFC is needed to get that G.Skill much above 500 MHz though, & nearly all Asus boards have a max of 42 unless you run SPD settings (which would likely be fine; just not tweakable obviously).

You can experiment with different combinations & see what works best.

As for how i get my mixed kits to work together?

I just put the pairs in the corresponding channel slots & it works fine.

This mobo is crap for clocking 4 dimms, & is utter garbage for clocking 4 dimms 4:5, so i presently am running 10x360 1:1 (DDR2-720 4-4-4-12) 1.9V

Though the G.Skill is rated 1.8-1.9V & the Mushkin 2.0-2.1V, they are both Powerchips & both will run at 1.8V just fine if so needed.
The Mushkin scales better with voltage; i could hit DDR2-1100 speeds before HCI Memtest started causing BSODs.
The G.Skill could only hit around DDR2-1000, but i have the DDR2-800 kit, & again, not a great mobo for clocking this kinda RAM.

Yeah, what I'm hoping to do is push the memory to its rated speed and maybe goose another 200 MHz or so out of the CPU. However, the setup I have now (with the P5E-VM) is running like a tank. I'm running 1:1 right now, and am not sure of how to set the dividers and the ramifications thereof; so, I'm off to the OC howtos elsewhere in the forums to get educated.

Amazing. I've tried many times to mix RAM from different manufacturers in previous generation hardware and just assumed it couldn't be done now. My guess you still have to use high-quality stix with similar timings and sped ratings. Mushkin has a good rep as far as I'm aware.

This little MicroATX board is doing a very spiffy job for me.

yep, got those same sticks. 8 x 500 / 2000 = 4.0 ram link-n-synked @ 1000
