G7, first impressions....

The good:
NO lag - I mean this, it feels just like using my MX510. Much better then my old MX700
Nice tracking - So far has worked without hitch on all the surfaces I have tried it on.
Super range - In my thirty ft. house, I can go all the way to the other side and it still works great!
On the fly DPI changing - Like I have said, I havn't actually played any games yet, but it's still a cool feature.
Weight - Much lighter then my MX700 = good.

The bad:
Only one button on the side. Bummer, I liked my buttons. Made it easy for the lazy to go back and forth between web pages without effort.
Battery compartments - It's a bit tricky getting the batteries to stay in there...oh well. :|

***UPDATE***

Just finished playing BF1942 and there is a noticable difference between the G7 and the MX700. The G7 responds much MUCH quicker. It really is like using a cordless mouse, it's great. THe DPI changer may not sound that great, but it is SOOO useful when you're jumping to sniper and back again.

One thing bugging me is that I can't map the left and right click buttons for the mouse wheel. Anyone know why this is?

SirDude, to map thsoe keys look in you system tray and double click on the logitech icon. If you don't have the software, get it from logitech.com

Make sure you are in the "My Mouse" tab and have your mouse selected from the pull-down menu.

the two buttons that YOU are inquiring about are called "left/right scroll" they are #5 and #6 on my G5... so they prob the same on yours.

You can change those two buttons to keystrokes of whatever key you want from that point on.

Also, a cool little thing is that you can have these key maps be set for specific programs. So you can even map your scroll up and down to something else for BF2 and not have it effect your web browsing scrolling.

So far (on this charge) I have been going about 9 hours. Yeah, I would be forced to agree with you. This has to be the worst thing about the G7. But, IMHO everything about the mouse makes up for poor battery life.

Thanks Jack for the information about mapping mouse buttons. I'll go get my software right away. (I want those buttons. )

9+ hours doesn't seem bad for a high performance wireless mouse. The only times I'll really be sitting at a computer that long are LAN parties, and doesn't that mouse have a spare battery that you can charge in its charger anyway? In any case, I always put my MX700 in the cradle when I'm away from the computer, so it's not that big of an issue.

I love the adjustable DPI idea, though I don't like that they removed one of the side buttons. My MX700 seems to act strangely from time to time, so at some point I'll probably replace it with a G7.

Good point. And with both batteries you have 18+ hours of charge.

I have the MX1000, and it doesn't last a week like everyone says it does. It's more like 2-3 days. I use the mouse around 8 hours a day though. If the G7 really lasts 9 hours, maybe I should have gotten the G7... I had the impression each battery was 3-4 hours.

Odd, I wonder what the difference with my MX1000 is, since I use my PC about 12 hours a day and get a full week out of each charge. It's a mix of gaming and normal work, though, and of course during the normal work I'm not moving the mouse constantly. Still, I'd say I get 30-40 hours of consistent use out of each charge. It's my favorite thing about the MX1000.

well a battery last 12+ of heavy use , i have to change the battery once a day but its awesome imagen your playing a game and you haven't recharged your MX 1000 for 2 days and it dies (always happens to me )... your are stuffed since you need to put it for charging but with a g7 all you do is a 5 sec battery change battery are charaged in 3 to 4hrs if you use boost mode which requires a a decent PSU and high powered USB 2.0. Anyways i have bought MOuse and i love my G7

But my mx1000 can last me very very longer ! because i didn't destroy the battery ... i let the battery totally run out before recharging it. so it can last me atleast 16hrs + and that is after more than 1 year of useage.

People that complain about battery dieing after 10hr with G7 are just lazy .. comeon ! changing the battery takes few sec not a whole hour ! they are lazy gamers! well i have been using wireless mouse since ever logitech mx700 release.
