Where exactly does the G71 fall on the food chain? Will this be another ultra-like card in the 7800 line, or are we looking at a new line such as 8800 (hypothetically speaking)? I like my 7800GT at the moment, but I can see myself upgrading with UT2007 comes around.

This will probably be my next card. As long as it's released before March 6 I can use EVGA's step-up program to trade up for one.

Food Chain wise, the G71 will be die shrunk to 90nm from 110nm (charactaristic of a refresh) and another 8 pipes plus 2 more vertex shaders added for a total of 32 pipes and 10 vertex shaders ( uncharacteristic for a refresh ). Supposedly clocked somewhere in the stratosphere at @ 700MHz? is what I have heard and memory around 1900MHz.

So, I'd say pretty high up on the food chain.

EDIT: As far as new features? Better AF? I hope. But that is just something I'd want. I havent really heard much on any new features. Perhaps others in here have heard more.

OMG get ready for teh sweet benchies, this should be interesting considering the current states of the G70 and R520, as these are just on a lower scale/spec yet perform similar. I wonder who will win this time round, I must say 32 real pipes and 700Mhz could pip first place.

And get ready for the massive Flamefest! I shall be sitting back with my pipe and slippers watching the thread lockage, MOD Banstick in action, and the worst Fabois in action. This should be fun, but please no eye gouging

If nothing else, video card launches are great for the forum entertainment they provide.

So, will G71 support HDR+AA. I know the X1800 can at a performance decrease, but how will the G71 fair, will it will even support it?

Is it worth going from 7800GT's in SLI to G71?

Is it bad I enjoy reading flame wars?

It's still not as interesting as being part of a flame war.

Anyways, did everyone miss the part in the OP where it says Nv might paper launch the card before you can buy it? Can I expect the Nv trolls to continue their anti-paper launch campaign if that happens?

With any luck, Newegg will probably have them in their warehouses by Mid-end of Jan. for a large hard launch like the 7800GTX.

while their rumors are often crazy and outlandish, INQ sounds right about nVidia getting ready to release this chip. Its been known for awhile that G71 has been in production. Its just what features will it have that nobody really knows other than what INQ spoonfeeds us.

i am hoping its not $700, thats all
I got till March 1st... $300 off whatever price it may be
now i just gotta secure a job lol
have been jobless since i got laid off, and hmm this could still be extremely tough to afford at any price

I got 2 7800GT's from evga if I ever wanted to step up. I could use it to get G71's in SLI! If maby my parents are feeling generous for my Birthday

Does anyone get the odd feeling that nVidia is being WAY too quiet about all this....like they are either holding something insanely powerful back OR they have something crappy?

i really can't wait for this one, the big question is NV's 32pipes or ATI's 48pixel shaders? which will be better?

The last great DX9 battle before Vista. I bet the scores are split depeding on the game thus expect an endless barrage of flaming until the G80/R600 are out.

Let's hope that the price and availability of the G71 isn't anything like the 7800GTX 512 and more comparable to the 7800 GTX 256 cards.

"We expect that Nvidia will win some of the benchmarks with its G71 while ATI will win some with R580, Radeon X1900XTX."

Wow, statement of the year.

I hope the G71 will be a monster.

I hope they are both monsters and we (the consumers) win either way.

We missed it, because it didn't say that in the article?

If there are "NV Trolls" here, I'd say there are just as likely "ATI Munkys".
