The basic Coolermaster, which happens to be what AMD pack as a retail heatsink.

I know what you mean. Even the retail HS/F uses a Slim Delta which annoys the hell out of me.

I'd recommend a Swiftech MCX462 coupled with a Papst 8412NGL. Silent and good enough for even a 2000+ XP.

I would also go with the swiftech (I may be going that rout soon as I get the money). You can couple it with a lower cmf quiet fan as recomended by pabster since the heatsink is so good at cooling.

I've heard several people comment on the "quiet" 60mm slim Delta fan. Ummm...no. That 4800 RPM fan is far from quiet. I use Speedfan to lower the RPM on mine (on a Taisol) to ~ 3100 RPM. Now, it is what I would call quiet.

You could get a 60mm to 80mm adapter, then you can strap on a standard case fan which are generally almost silent and have excellent airflow (I am using one on my Athlon MP 1.2 Gig, temperature hovers around 100 F).

i think my ears must have adjusted or something becuse i just got a new delta 38 cfm in a couple weeks ago....and it's quiet.....
of course even with the louder one before my case killed the whining noise
but panaflos are supposed to be nice and quiet for the air they move

fans: either panaflo (panasonic) or Sunon - while the panaflos are *slightly* better they are kinda pricey.

Eg. the 80mm panaflo moves 39.6cfm air at 32db noise and is $12, the sunon 80mm moves 39cfm air at the same noise level and is only $5. (newegg(

I have the sunons and i am quite satisfied with 'em.

If you get a GOOD, big heatsink like the alpha8045 then you can use one of these quiet and slow fans and still get very good cooling.

(for me that is like 40 deg. idle and 48 load for an overclocked 1800 at 2000 speed.)

The fan's noise is totally neglectible.

Ok. The Fan for my CPU definetly was not a problem, It Is the [edit]Power Supply (had Heatsink earlier )[/edit]. (call me stupid but....) I unpluged the fan and repluged it back in while the computer was running and I could not tell a diffrence. CoolMax CM79-P for Socket370/ 462 CPU Fan Is deffenatly A good fan though, It has my CPU Cold while staying quiet.

I went from a Delta screamer to an Alpha 8045 with a Panaflo, and the difference is huge. Now there is a quiet background hum. With the Delta in there it sounded like a fricking wind tunnel. Temps went noticeably down too.
