I just recieved a new Gainward GF4 Ti4600 yesterday, I went to install it in a new, never started computer I just built
for my teenager and I find that it has two ports that I am not familliar with. They are both scribed "DVI" on the mounting plate
(digital video?)are slightly larger overall then a standard serial port and have 24 pins on one side 4 pins seperated by a small flat clip/bar
on the other side. The card came with 2 adapters to connect a serial cable, but my problem is that with the adapter, and then the monitor cable
(which is pretty heavy itself) there is a lot of weight and side torque on the video card. it also sticks out at least 4-6 inches and is bound to hit
something. The card failed about 15 minutes after I fired it up and I am in the process of trying to RMA it (with Gainward making this difficult)
Even if a replacement works ok I dont like the way I have to connect it to the monitor, and can forsee problems in the future. Is it possible I got
the wrong card? I havent read any mention of this board having multiple versions for different applications but maybe there are.
Any body have any ideas? does any one know if there are any monitor cables available that have a standard 15 pin serial connector on one end and
this goofy "DVI" 28+ pin connector on the other (thereby eliminating some of my sidewaise torque).
