I did notice my battery life got better when I switched to T-Mobile. Verizon's signal was not nearly as good inside my house, so battery life while at home was terrible.

How's your battery life with T-Mobile? I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and took advantage of the S8 BOGO offer. It's my fourth day with my S8+, and I'm so glad I don't have to charge throughout the day. I unplugged at ~7 AM yesterday, and finished the day with 51% battery life with about 4h SoT. My 6P would've need to be charged twice with the same use case.

Any one have a recommendation on screen protector and wireless charger? It seems my Nexus wireless charging pad doesn't work.

It's much better. Verizon's signal was so marginal, it would constantly be dropping from LTE to 3g and back and it killed my standby.

I can't help you on the screen protector - I don't have one yet, but when I do I'm going to get a wet-apply skin-type. I use my wireless charger I bought with my Note7 last year. I'm sure it will work with the one I bought for my S6 though, too.

This guys tested a bunch of tempered glass screen protectors and it seems there's really just one that's worthwhile.

The name is whitestone dome and it's expensive and the install is tedious but I may end up ordering it. I had a wet applied protector but I removed it because it was lifting. Within a day or 2 the screen was scratched from using the Samsung clear view case. Somehow a couple grains of sand got caught in the rubberized flap and scratched the screen.

Anyone using a plastic film screen protector and noticing a reduction in responsiveness? I'm using the ArmorSuit wet application one. From the very short time I had the phone without it applied I seem to remember better responsiveness. Now I often have to tap twice and use much more force.

Yes more pressure is needed but I wouldn't say its excessive, at least the ones I've used. It's just the way wet applied films are.

Why is it that Samsung is unable to write good software for their flagship devices?
Two colleagues of mine just bought s(s 2 weeks ago, and already they are pissed because it has turned into a jerk fest.
While my OP3 is running as strong as the first day I got it.

What is the deal here?

Owner of S8+ since release date on Verizon.
3 isolated incidents, 2 involving the fingerprint reader (Didn't pick up my fingerprint on first try ) and the initial bug with a service stopping message that was fixed long ago.
No hiccups. No stutters. No jerkiness.
Everything has been smooth and responsive.
Consistent awesome battery life.

So I don't know what the deal is.
All I know is that I have no complaints based on my ownership experience.

You might be the exception. Or you may not. Don't know. But..
I work with a somewhat obsessive compulsive buyers of phones.
It was the same situation with S6, S6 edge, S7, and now S8. Every time they promise it's better, but it's not.

Jerkiness is obvious in gallery apps, gmail, contacts, call list.. So pretty much anything involving lists and scrolling.

We also have 2 OP3 and OP3T in the office, and it's stellar.

Test sample is not big enough to draw general conclusion based on that, but there are plenty of complaints of this online.

What carrier?
I'm on Verizon. No obvious jerkiness.

I've never seen a phone that didn't occasionally struggle with lists and/or scrolling. Not a single one.

For what it's worth, my S8+ is more smooth than my iPhone 7+ was. But the S8 isn't perfect, and no phone is when it comes to this.

The only time I have a jerky UI while scrolling is when I'm in the apps list. If I don't wait for it to populate the sizes, it will scroll janky till it finishes.

I dont expect the phone to be perfect. Not that kind of ocd.

Its just strange that an "old" op3 is obviously better in this regard and day to day performance than gs8.

What are you talking about? Half of this post is incoherent... What does turning into a jerkfest mean? What software problems? What does s(s mean

Jerk fest is referring to the know android issues of jerky scrolling..

S(s was a typo. Should have been S8. Not sure how that happened.

Both of those you could have easily assumed.

No need for insulting someone for sharing their experience. Are you THAT attached to a consumer brand? That's not healthy.

Agreed - every phone at one point or another will struggle with scrolling. The S8 seems to be smoother than my 6P, and my iPhone 6.

I don't know what jerkiness they speak of, the s8 (which I preordered and got on release day) is smoother than my nexus 6p was, and continues to be smoother than the iphone I have to use for work.

I'm not sure why you think I can make the jump from "jerk fest" to knowing you meant "slow scroll speed" or that "s(s" meant s8. Those keys aren't even close together, and I certainly don't know how you can do that on a phone either.

If that's what the oneplus allows you to type, thank god I avoided that dumpster fire

I just went into a sms thread in Messenger that has around 100 pictures and 7000 messages and I scrolled up with a single flick - and when a pic popped up the scroll slowed down just a touch to load the picture. I think that's what he's referring to as "jank". The iPhones don't load pictures in SMS unless you actually fully stop scrolling on it, same as the browser. But, on a picture heavy thread with way less overall messages (about 100) it doesn't "jerk".

As I mentioned before, the only other bit of "jerk" I saw was loading the apps list while waiting for the sizes to load.

Don't know if there is anything new but see my post above for tempered glass on the s8+.
Works well enough in my UAG case and 11 dollars on Amazon.

Thanks. I will give a shot to the i-Blason screen protector. I tried one of the thin cases and did not like it. It kinda kills the ergonomics of the phone. For now I keep using my phone naked - I really like the in-hand feel of this phone and how "sticky" it is in my hand.

I watched this on the S8 and G6, both of which have HDR displays, side by side. It looked to me that the S8 in the video had washed out faded color compared to the natural vibrant color of the G6. Display settings are default, and video enhancer is enabled on the S8.

My bad, I linked to a wrong copy. For some reason I cannot locate the other version now. I did not mean to suggest that the phone is capable of displaying 10-bit colors! Haha. I meant the curvature of the display makes an extremely vivid visual experience. People who I showed the clip on the S8 think it's 3D. XD

There is jerkiness, or janks with the S8. It is something Samsung has to keep working on. I do think it has more to do with hardware than software, despite all the flak Touchwiz gets. More specifically I do think Samsung is relying heavily on "LITTLE" cores more than Google and other Android OEMs do in order to conserve battery. It is high time Samsung steps up in the SOC innovation and give us a generational leap. Or it will perpetually stray behind Apple.

Samsung isn't trailing behind Apple in any meaningful way I give a flying damn about.
My wife and many iPhone owners I know won't 'upgrade' to the ip7 because it eliminates key features they want like a simple headphone jack, and otherwise doesn't do jack redactedthey care about that justifies it.

(Most NORMAL people don't give a flying rat about anyone's OCD redactedabout how supposedly 'fast' and 'smooth' a damn cell phone is based on some geeky SOC nonsense- they care more about practical things in how they use the phone in their real day-to-day lives.

I get it, people like their iPhones. That's fine. But 'way out ahead of Samsung' and phones like the s8 and upcoming Note 8? Keep dreaming.

Installed the whitestone dome tempered glass screen protector a few days ago. It's great to be using tempered glass again. The glass feels thick and high quality but installation is tedious. I've already got some bubbles but they are on the edges and not very noticeable.Overall I think the kit costs too much and you can easily screw it up but I'm very happy to get rid of the smudge prone wet applied screen protector.
