Saw the 8.4 for the 1st time yesterday and I am very impressed. Easily the top or top two screen on any tablet. So light and feels great in hand. Nicely done Samsung.

I am wishing for a Google edition though

My only peeve so far is that the auto brightness low is too low. Not really bad but this baby can really go dim. I installed Lux lite and it's fine.

I bought one of those (for a buck less even) but I don't use it except when I take the tablet outside. It's a bit bulky and the stand function doesn't work that great.

Mine hardly adds any bulk and the stand works great IMO. I was totally expecting the smart cover functionality to not work, as is the case with cheap cases, but it works flawlessly on this one.

Maybe I'm not using the it correctly but I find it very difficult to engage the stand compared to other iPad cases (admittedly much more expensive cases) that I've used. The cover just sits there unused 98% of the time but it was only $5 shipped so it's hard to bitch too much about it.

Anyone know if any features are to come out for interaction between Galaxy devices? Is there any draw in having a Galaxy S5 phone?

The more I read about this the more I am so tempted to get it. Is this considered the best tablet in the 8" range? Anything else on the horizon to look for?

It really depends on what you value in a mobile OS tablet.

I want as many tablet-native apps and games as possible, so I went iPad. It also has the best accessory ecosystem and better battery life. If you're more interested in stereotypical Android things like widgets and Samsung's kinda-sorta multi-window mode, then you'd want the Tab Pro. It's hard to go wrong with either, but one may scratch the itch more than the other.

The retina mini is nice but I like Android better. I wouldnt mind a mini since I use an Android phone(having both) but I am not paying the premium Apple wants.

An update on my battery issue...

Yesterday I unplugged the tab from the charger before I left for work and because I was busy at work I never once opened the cover until I got home from work. The battery indicated 37% after 13 hours unplugged but never once used. WTF would have caused the battery to lose nearly 2/3 charge in 13 hours if non use?

Maybe you have an app or wakelock that don't let your tablet deep sleep

And the weirdness continues ...

So I was very busy at work again today and didn't get a chance to play with the tab until I got home and when I opened the cover I was surprised to see the battery indicating 100%. So I play some videos and do some surfing and 45 minutes later the battery is showing ... 100%. Strange!

OK, so I play around for another 15 minutes with the battery still showing 100% then I decide to do a power-off the restart. After bootup the battery was now indicating 67%.

Then, while surfing for another 15 minutes or so the battery began to drop to 66% then 65% in more-or-less the way you'd expect so all seems well now.

Amazing...

Iphones and iPad do the same thing.

I've had two iPhones and never seen this on them. I've also had 3 Android phones and 2 Android tablets and the only device I've seen this battery weirdness is the Sammy 8.4 Pro tab.

I will say that I'm experiencing intermittent wife issues. Nexus 7 seems to be a little smoother.

LOL Just occasionally however. Could be something I have installed on it.

Have you put in a micro SD card? I just got a SanDisk 64GB, and it doesn't want to stay in, the spring just pushes it right back out.

I've been deciding back and forth between the Nexus 7 (2013) and this also. I'd only really use it in bed for Netflix and quick browsing so the $160 cost difference is a huge deal. I think I would like the sd slot for future-proof reasons though. Not really liking the large Nexus 7 bezel either.

I'd like your thoughts on full battery life between the 2 when you get a chance to use it more. I only have the original ipad (too big & heavy) that has the battery life I am envious of.

If you go for the newer Nexus 7, get the 32GB. I got the 16GB on sale, but now wish I had sprung for the extra storage. Great tablet, free of all the cruft Samsung loads on theirs. Battery life is excellent.

I have owned this tablet for about 10 days now and just want to share a couple of points:

First, you need to really go through all the menus in settings and check all available options. Only keep what you deem essential for your personal use and deactivate the rest. It will have a huge impact on how long the battery lasts on a single charge. Turn the tablet off completely for a minute then turn back on.

Secondly, the screen is so bright there's no reason to keep brightness even at 50%. Mine is set at about 33% with auto brightness off. This is still as bright as my ipad3 set at 60%.

Also, all apps installed by user can be moved to the memory card. The only exception so far is Angry birds Go!. I got a 64 GB memory card and it's down to about 20 gig with all the apps, games, movies installed while I still have about 9 gig out of the original 10+ on the tablet itself.

The battery lasts about 6 hours which is pretty bad compared to my ipad3, however, I partial solved it with this external battery which also works for my G2 phone. http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Exter...ternal+battery
It's small enough I just carry it around just like a second smart phone on me.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the 10.1 inch, but I have a question that has different answers in this thread. Can you, or can you not install apps to the sd card? I want to load this up with movies using plex, but 16GB ain't going to cut it.

Well I must say that doing the full reset and holding upside down in portrait and the other way in landscape so the wifi antenna is up in the air more has pretty much cured the wifi issues. So glad I didn't have to send it in.

I really like this tablet. However, I must say, the Android version of The Economist doesn't hold a candle to the iPad 2 version. All around an inferior product. Not Samsung's fault but still a terrible experience. Not sure what to buy with that $25 Google credit, though.
