Hello everyone. I am looking for a good router.

I am a heavy gamer, and my linksys's 10 field max port forwarding isn't cutting it anymore ... I need like 20-30 minimum.

What do you pros suggest? I would like to stay under the 150 range and it doesn't have to be wireless. I can use my Linksys wireless router to do that.

Thanks

I don't understand why you would need to forward all those ports. A gamer connects to a server, and shouldn't need any forwarded ports.

If you run a gaming server, the most you would need is 1 per game (and most should share the directx game port, I would think)

Some of the newer games actually use p2p quite a bit.
Lord of the rings online, uses it for patching the client.
Some others even use a small server in the client to check for hacks.

I saw one game, think it was a fps, that required 9 ports to be forwarded.

Can't suggest a router.
I use pfsense, virtually unlimited ports.

DMZ a good idea? I have been told DMZ is the 1st step to getting hacked lol. I mean moving outside the "firewall" isn't the best of ideas. If I DMZ the game rig and then ZoneAlarm or something? The game rig is only on when I am on it really so I guess DMZ isn't so bad. Does DMZ open other potential problems with other PCs behind the "firewall"?

Also my router will flash DD-WRT ? I haven?t looked into it much ? is it worth the flash?

Technically you're not outside of the firewall but you do have every port forwarded to your machine so it's almost the same. Whether it's a good idea or not depends on how well you trust the security of your machine and yourself. For most people, no, it's not a good idea.

You won't be able to forward any ports to them so anything that requires a direct connection will stop working.
