Gamers.... What's a gib?

Ok, first time I heard this term was tonight, and I'm a pretty hardcore gamer and have been for many years.

So I ask a fellow gamer, and they say, its a kill. I'm perplexed at this, where did this term come from and is it an abrv. for something? Eh?

Oh...btw lan party in Louisville, KY this weekend, starting Friday at 9:00...

A frag is a kill. You frag a guy, you kill him. You score 20 kills in a round, you got 20 frags.

in halflife there is a console command to turn up the # of gibs. So, like when you frag someone, thousands of body parts come flying off.

In Unreal Tourney, there's the option of Insta-Gib. Where if you hit'em, it's instant giblets all over the place. In that case, a gib is a frag.

A frag is a kill in a game, but a gib is a body part of a player...

In the old days of Quake, it meant the pieces of the body when you killed ("fragged") someone. You can also use it interchangeably with killed, fragged, owned.

I've always understood that "gib" can be used as a noun and a verb. If you use it as a noun, then it is a piece of dude. If you use it as a verb, then it is the act of turning a dude into pieces (killing them).

Personally I associate frag = regular kill. "Gibblets" with the body pieces when you're fragged. "Gibbed" with fragging something with a one shot kill most likely with quad because they just literally explode into "gibblets"
