Games won't install

I keep having trouble trying to install games on one of my pc's. The games install on my other computers just fine. I tried swapping the cd drive out and even reformatted and loaded windows back in and it still comes up with the same errors.

Example:

Far Cry
Error: 1335 The cabinet file Binaries.cab required for this installation is corrupt and can not be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the cd rom or a problem with the package.

Other games seem to have errors something like this also....strange...

Any ideas?

I would suspect either memory troubles or windows file that have been corrupted. I've had winodws not install before because of memory problems and I've had farcry lock up on my for a while when installing and come back and say cant read from source XXX the file is missing or corrupt. A fresh install of winodws fixed the problem.

crappy CDROM drive is my guess.

So you're saying you were able to install windows in using the CD drive, but once Windows is installed, then it won't install games? If this is the case... and this is a long shot, could be DMA problems... maybe your drive has problems in DMA mode, so try turning that off.

I did swap the cdrom drive out with one I used to install the game on another pc here.
I'm guessing I should test the memory...MEM86 still a good way to test it?
