Hi,

I would like to know some good options to buy a Gaming Laptop for around $3500. I would be using this laptop as a TDR and would use it to play the "Good Games" at 1920 x 1080 so I guess the graphics solution has to provide at least 30 fps at this resolution.

Main requirements are :

1. A very good processor, desktop class preferable.
2. SLI or Crossfire. If Crossfire, then at least 6970M.
3. Battery life is not at all important.
4. It should have a very good looking keyboard (preferably something like the Alienware backlit keyboards)

I think the M18X would be a good buy. I checked Falcon Northwest, but they are too expensive.

Does anybody have any good suggestions.

Thanks,

If you are dead set on a laptop i would go with the Alienware M18X and get two HD6990's (they are close to the 580's in performance for about 700 bucks less)

If you're going to use it as a DTR, why not just get a kickass desktop for <$2000, and a really nice monitor like the U2711? It just seems crazy to me, but to each their own.

Any reason you need a laptop instead of a desktop?

I will be traveling a lot and hence cannot have a desktop.

Cannot lug a desktop around, even though there will be some that are considerably lighter than the M18X

Also check out Doghouse Systems. I've heard really good things about them.

Well I checked the site, but they have limited customization options. The processor cannot be changed and they only have single graphics solutions

Check out the Sager NP7282. Sites like XoticPC, Malibal, Mythlogic, LPC-Digital all carry Clevo/Sager laptops.

Since you want a portable gaming pc for travel, I can see the appeal of the larger notebooks but I have to warn you lugging around a 12 lb machine gets to be a real pain after a while. I have a Sager NP9262, and have enjoyed the power for the last 3 years, but the weight has gotten to me. Even with a top of the line back pack it still is a pain to carry arround.
The nice thing is that you can get a decent 17 inch at about 7 lbs now with really good video power. Have you considered the ASUS G74SX series? Looks like you can really get a smoking machine for about $2500 and keep the wieght down.

My 3 year old Gateway plays almost all games at 1920x1080.

You aren't getting much extra performance for all that money. And there's not likely to be many new games with higher requirements than whatever the consoles can do.

For $3500 you could have a fleet of decent game playing laptops and desktops.

- nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 3,072MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11

I checked this site http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html and I saw that the GTX560M is not able to support a couple of games in ultra settings (which I assume is 1920 x 1080). Can someone please point me to a 560M SLI review. I have not been able to find any.

I was able to configure a good laptop at xotipc but it cost me around $3000, so can you please send me the config of some machines that you might have in mind.

This article from notebookcheck goes over the limitations.

The question is finding another 17in with light weight and a better graphics chip without too much increase in expense. I'll keep looking but if you find any, please post. I too am looking but I just dont want to carry arround a 12 lb monster anymore.
