Gaming Monitor Advice

I am looking for a monitor (~$500) specifically for pc gaming. Can we talk about what are good options? I have looked into a lot of monitors, but I could not find a clear winner. And it doesn't help that all public reviews talk about video quality, whereas I want something optimized for gaming. I was originally looking at 24" monitors (ideally, that is what I want), but from what I read it seems that smaller monitors make games look better as the playable resolution is native to the monitor. What do you guys suggest? This is for a brand new core i7 rig (~$2k).

I was looking at:
Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP <- Long time favorite until I read about red tint/input lag issues
Acer G24 <- Very fast, until I read about poor darks/light bleeding from edges
Dell G2410 <- Too new, but back led is awesome
Gateway FHD2400 <- good reviews
Samsung 2493HM <- good reviews

A ~$2K i7 rig should be able to handle just about any game at 1920 x 1200, so you probably should stick with a 24" LCD.

I think my Soyo with S-PVA panel is pretty awesome for gaming, and the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP uses the sme type of panel. It has a few issues, but by and large the Dell Ultrasharp is well liked.

Here is a review of the G2410. Looks very interesting with LED backlight. for as low as $259. If your going to get a TN display, this looks like a good bet:

"We tested the Dell G2410 with its DVI connection. The display posted a composite score of 97 on CNET Labs' DisplayMate-based performance tests, which is the highest we've yet seen. We compared it with the 24-inch Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP, which scored a 90, and to the Dell S2409W's 87. The G2410's accurate reproduction of color and its screen uniformity impressed us the most. In the Dark Screen test, the display yielded the least backlight bleed-through we've seen in a monitor, suggesting that movie watching on the G2410 will not be plagued by backlight glare during dark scenes as some monitors are. The G2410 easily passed all of our color tests getting perfect scores in all six tests. "

The low backlight bleed makes me think this will be good for gaming.

you should post this question in the lcd thread. xtknight knows more about this subject than the pope knows about catholicism, and he checks that thread all the time. Um, xtknight checks that thread, not the pope. I guess the pope could check it, too, but he doesn't post to at any rate.

Dell G2410 looks very good. That review mentions that they ran Crysis and didn't not notice and blurring.
