The power supply is basically providing the "blood" that runs your whole system. You don't want a crappy PSU poisoning your whole rig and killing off parts, meaning the cheap PSU blew a gasket and sent a surge that fried multiple computer parts worth hundreds of dollars. I paid $150 for my PSU. It's not the best but it's not the worst. It's mid-range which is what this Seasonic is.

Newer games are sucking up more and more RAM. Future proofing yourself with 2GB of RAM now is better than having to add more RAM later. There is also the fact that current A64 CPU's run the RAM at 2T if you populate all four RAM slots. This is a big performance hit with A64's. Going with 2x1024 sticks of RAM allows you to have excess RAM in case you ever need it as well as allowing it to run at 1T timings which will allow it to run at top notch timings.

And for those that absolutely want to recommend spending every last dollar. Just because you have X dollars as your budget limit doesn't mean you should spend every bit of it. There is a point of diminishing returns and that's what you should go by. Letting the buyer know what other options he has to reach the $1900 but let them know what's the best bang for the buck is the responsible thing to do though.

For instance, even though I have an SLI board I have an ATI X800 video card because it was the best bang for the buck at the time I bought it. Sure, I had the money to buy two 6800GT's but for the extra performance gain, it wasn't worth it. Heck, I could still buy two 6800GT's right now without a sweat because I have money saved up. However, it wouldn't make sense getting them for a few extra FPS. Not when I can play most games at a decent frame rate on high resolutions already with my current video card.

AMD 64 "Venice" (coming extremely soon and worth the wait) 3500+ $300

What? All the Venice is is a revision. I wouldnt buy this if you wernt ocing. It overclocks like mad but other than that its just a 3500+ with a better mem controller. Save some money and get a winnie or newcastle.

I'd rather have a x850xt than that SLI crap. Save some money.

OK, I'm highly against SLI for various reasons. Primarily it is too expensive. BUT for $1900, not getting SLI is just ignorance because it'll be faster than any ATI setup.

If you take any latest most intensive games, 2x 6800GTs/Ultras are in the league of their own. Given that driver support is improving and more games are added to the list, it is most likely that all latest upcoming games will be supported by SLI setup.

The only way other way for someone who is getting top of the line would be to get an x850xt now and then R520 in 5 months.

When are they coming out?

Also, while we are at it. . . 2gigs of the patriot LL or corsair C2s?

PS: looking for ram that wont be tottaly null in the overclocking area, thats the only reason for getting low latency so please correct me if i am looking at the wrong memory to begin with. I do need 2gigs though.

Thx

I wouldn't put an Antec TrueControl 550 in with SLI. It's only rated 24 amps on the 12V line, and based on bad user reviews I'd guess it was more like a 18A, based on good ones I've read 30A. Depends on who you trust. Before I buy anything major, I always google for "model number + fail" or +dead or +crash or +error just in case. It should work in this system, but may not put much headroom for future upgrades. You will probably also need to get 6 pin adapters for the PCI-e cards.

2x6.25A =12.5A for 2 PCI-e video cards in SLI
+7.5A for CPU
+1A approximately for average HD
-------------
21A total before ______ other accessories

i'd play it safe and go with one of these Nvidia Recommended http://www.slizone.com/content/slizone/build.html

That's only true for non-Venice core Athlon64s
I suggest getting the upcoming Athlon64 Venice

Don't spend anything in the ultra high end like Athlon64FX, instead, save the money for getting better graphic cards, monitors, speakers, etc. That way it's much more worth it.

Dude I envy rich people like you

Get a Western Digital Raptor 74GB HDD for system drive if you want
Does make apps load swifter

Any SATA NCQ Segate 200-300GB HDD for storage drive

A decent gaming soundcard, say Creative Audigy, since Advance EAX HD is quite cool for gaming with decent speakers.
However I heard the new zenilith (how u spell it?) is coming out soon which is PCIX1... So you might hold back later

If you can wait for R520 though in summer, I am sure they beat 2 x GeForce 6 Ultra into stardust. Running 2 x R520 would be...
But I don't know whether motherboard with ATi chipset would be out, and if they are any good. But well

Well I was waiting for the venice cores, but does anyone really know when they will come out? and how much different will they be from the winchester or clawhammer cores?
Also, why buy over PC3200 ram when the guy is NOT OVERCLOCKING. AT ALL!

Also, I was thinking that no sound card is required because he'll just be using headphones.

And 1900$ isn't an infinite amount of money. I know the R520's will kick ass, but my friend has already been waiting quite a long time to get this system, and honestly, is there any game coming out any time soon likely to slow down this system significantly?

He really wants the system ASAP, so I would like to reach some kind of conclusion.

I can't figure out why you are stuck on going SLI right now. Seems like a complete waste.
Also, $175 is quite a lot of money for a PSU. I'm not what advatage there is to having 4 seperate 12V rails, but they sure are proud of it.

That's a major question.

I'd get an X850XT...Less power (less electricity bills), less heat, more than adequate for today's games (at very high resolutions and eye candy), easier to upgrade in the future (you don't have to replace 2 cards! Also you can just pop in an R520 and run AMR), and cheaper!
And I'd fund the rest toward 10KRPM HDs, a fast CPU, and 2gig of RAM. Just my opinion.
