This is for gaming. Not mouse, keyboard, monitor, or anything. Only the computer, but that includes the case... leave around 100$ for the case, I can pick the case for him (My friend). Overclocking is probably not going to happen, so value ram is ok.

I know this is asking a little much for a forum online, but please try to come to some kind of a consensus =D

Also, the games will be CPU intensive. Source engine games especially, although some high quality MMO's as well (Read: WoW)

What is this AMR that everyone is referring to - is it some version of SLI for AMD cards?

The reason I'm stuck on SLI is that anything else doesn't use the budget to it's fullest, meaning that the PC will not last as long playing intensive games. Also, all the games the guy plans to play are SLI supported games. My conclusion is that SLI is the way to go if you're trying to spend 1900$ on a gaming computer. Paying for more than a 4000+ is a waste of money if you're not overclocking, as is paying for expensive ram.

I'm not sure what monitor he's playing on, but it's a fairly recent CRT monitor he likes.

if you plan on overclocking i would have to disagree with everyone who says against the FX, the clock multiplier adjustments are great when adjusting FSB and such especially if you have a motherboard that can do all sorts of voltage increases like the DFI Nf4 series

Yeah but for the price difference between 3800+ and FX55 you can get another 6800GT or save money to upgrade to R520 later in 6 months, or get phase-change cooling and overclock 3800+ way beyond what FX55 will ever get to on air cooling. FX55 is a rip off unless $800 is what you make a day.

True, but I think SLI is a waste. Alot of games don't even work in SLI, and most others don't need it. I have no problems running games maxed out with my single 6800 GT.

So are you planning on going SLI for sure?

Well, my justification is that SLI will give the best dollar efficiency over time... not to mention that it just rocks. However, my system, much like the one that my friend wants, is SLI and doesn't seem to get the performance I'd expect... but that's another story.

Anyway, what do you guys think. This guy doesn't get to upgrade his system often, and I'm still open to suggestions.

Seems adequate, but if he's going to be playing MMORPHs, you should get him 2 X 1GB sticks. I recommend against going with an OCZ PSU. Maybe an Antec, Seasonic or XClio.

Yea, since the budget is 1900 I will go with the 2x1024 sticks. He will probably buy that.

If you have left over money, why not go for 2x1GB? I would whole-heartedly reccomend an OCZ PSU. My 450w Modstream has been nothing but great in my system.
