I checked the link, but something seemed off. Your link is to the 9950X - not the 9950X3D. The X3D is $719, although there is a 3rd party (probably scam) at $469

Yes I saw that myself and edited my post over on Tom's. There doesn't seem to be any 9950X3D's sold by Amazon. I saw the cheaper ones and I wouldn't bother with them. If it's not sold and shipped by Amazon, its a no go for me.

Ditto on the shipped/sold part. It took a little while before I realized it wasn't an X3D - I hovered over buy now a few times while trying to figure out why it was so cheap (thought used/return maybe).

Yea the price being what it was should've made me double check. That said, since ARL is so poor at gaming the 9950X beats it more often than not, and would at productivity as well. All while being cheaper (at the moment). It isn't AMD's top gaming CPU but it is still better than Intel's latest. But with RPL beating ARL in gaming that isn't saying much.

It is currently available from Amazon US site, $20 over MSRP (kind of unusual, Amazon price is typically not higher than MSRP).

That's a scam.

1851 is collecting dust in retail. It isn't even in the top 20 on Amazon U.S. despite the price drops. These reviews won't boost it either. Gaming drives retail, that's why 3D dominates sales. Platform longevity has become a main selling point too. Need look no further than Zen 3 still outselling everything Intel for concrete proof. It's why these vs articles 8 months after launch are not going to create any momentum. Productivity tests? Yawn inducing and skipped by vast majority of DIYers.

Yes, I tried to buy one, and it said "can't be shipped to that address" and removed it from my cart. No other sellers an Amazon, so you can't even buy one from Amazon if you are in the US.

The 265K, on the other hand, has been cheap enough to be a good purchase for anyone who only games a bit or not at all. It was $270 on Amazon or similar on Newegg with an included SSD or memory for a while. Insane value, I think. 20 cores 3nm at a lower price than the 9700X with only 8 4nm cores.

There is a reason why the 9950x3d and the 265k cost what they do cost. total performance, not just "good enough for some games".

Yeah, one of them has become a value part and the other is a halo part where value has gone out the window. 265K is about equivalent to the 7950X in MT with better 1T, better v/f curve if you want to tweak and better iGPU if you use that.

The 285K is also poorly priced in comparison.

Seems like this review is . . . pointless? The 285k still loses (despite poor config on 9950X3D), nothing has really changed. 265k might be okay but Intel can't be making good margins at that price. In any case it doesn't seem like this review merits its own thread. Not that it's gonna kill anyone.

The CPU space has been boring for us casuals lately, so any red meat is welcomed. 🐺 IEEE types talking shop is about as exciting as watching paint dry, where my tastes are concerned. A good old fashioned versus thread where one of the reviewers actually puts FIGHT! in the title? That's the good stuff IMO.

With all of the layoffs and another massive round about to happen, Intel SMG is a shadow of its former self. These "updated reviews" are all they can manage perhaps? This guy did it a month ago beating Black Bird and Tom's to the punch.

You'll notice he defends his review the same way Paul is doing in the comments over at Tom's. Funny that. If you find yourself doing it, you have already lost. Jay starting his latest Nvidia piece by saying we all call him an Nvidia shill was so self aware in the worst way possible. Don't do that, you are not helping your cause. 😂

From my POV all 3 of those "reviews" feel like the old comedy meme about Cleveland tourism where it ends with - At least we're not Detroit!

@DAPUNISHER

Eh I guess, coulda shoehorned it into one of the existing threads though. No big whoop. Gotta wonder why we've got some "but wait Intel is actually not awful" articles coming out, though. Are they doing it to be contrary for clicks or are they getting paid? Did Intel lay off some of their guerilla marketing team and redirect some money to 3rd parties?

I actually watched that whole video and he went out of his way to make AMD look bad. Almost everything is productivity where using a 9950X would be a better comparison. Then he tests one game but at 4k so that Intel doesn't look bad there. And he is constantly bitching about fans and heat which I really have to question as to how legitimate that is. Temperature I can understand since Zen 4 AMD lets CPU's hit higher temps before ramping up the fans. But fan noise? The AMD CPU uses less power, I don't see how that is possible.

Oh, and just the title of the video lol. "Don't make a mistake!" (AMD bad)

He did the right thing because of the forum rules here. Vendor threads are safe spaces. A versus thread allows members to throw shade at any brand.

My gut says the timing and common theme are red flags. It is what I would expect from the ever shrinking, dejected, and for many, soon to be ejected, Intel SMG. Has to be a lot of pressure from on high because of how poorly they are doing in retail. With 1851 potentially being the worst selling retail generation ever.

My laptop with a NPU (AI 365) tried to turn it on. Like wtf, who would want that feature? Yes please, please take screenshots of all my private stuff and save it to some random place. So I destroyed the laptop and deleted AMD.
