So my wife asked me to look "closely" at the splash guard on the garbage disposal this weekend. Sure enough, it was growing something...
I pulled the disposal, took off the old splash guard, cleaned inside thoroughly with bleach and comet and replaced the guard. It was freaking disgusting black and brown mold city. What I don't understand is why this happened so suddenly...
My real question is: looking into the disposal, the plate the rotates is totally rusted, as are the stationary teeth on the circumference. Is this normal? Does this mean its time for a new one? Obviously the sink drain is a wet location, why would the disposal be constructed of something that could rust?
