garbled video with 6600gt AGP

just put together a system:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra Athlon 64(FX) Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor Socket 939 Retail
2 X Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160827AS 160GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer
Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU Pure Copper CPU Cooler Retail
Antec SLK3700AMB
XFX nVidia 6600GT AGP


When I power up, I get the screen shows checkered colors. Can anyone help?

I played with it a bit more. When I stick in my old AGP card into the new system, the video comes up fine. This leads me to think that there may be some issue with the card. Can anyone comment?

I'm having similar issues w/ a evga 6600gt and a shuttle sn45g.

Boots fine but when it tries to go into windows, I see half of the word WINDOWS all over the screen and the system freezes.


I have gotten it to work in a msi NEO plat2 w/ a amd 64bit 3000.

Also if I put the 6800 back in the shuttle it works fine.


Main rig
6800gt works
6800nu works
6600gt works

Shuttle
6800gt works
6800nu works
6600gt does not work

Ive also tried every possible resolution and output(dvi-dsub-svideo-component) to no avail on the shuttle.


I cant even get into safe mode.

actually my problem is worse than yours.

The monitor shows the colored checkers as soon as the power is turned on even before Windows OS load. I called XFX tech support and they said it could be:
1) Bad pin contact.
2) bad memory onthe video card.

Well, I made sure it's not #1.

I flashed my bios to 1.37mod and tried it again. no cigar.

Can anyone help with this or is this basically a bad card?

what kind of power supply do you have?

350w antec. it's right off the bet when the power's turned on. I don't think it has to do with lack of wattage.

anyway. I RMA'ed the damned thing. paid $17 with insurance and tracking. sucks

Oh yeah. I did my homework looking at all quirks and tips before buying the parts.

You know what? I was just looking through my bios setting and I see "Graphic Card setting" and I see two choices, PCI and AGP. It's set to PCI. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I wouldn't think so because my old AGP card works with the setting set to PCI. I'm pretty sure the graphics card is defective. this sucks big time
