Garmin Nuvi 760 Questions

hi -

just picked one up and have a few questions:

1) is the serial # on the bottom right of the unit? when i try to find updates it says no info available for it. when i try to register it, it says it was already registered. is it a returned item perhaps?

2) can i use the AC charger from my cell phone to charge the gps unit? it fits, but i believe the charger is only 5V.

The serial number is on the bottom by the power connector. If you are having problems registering your unit just call Garmin, they have top notch phone support. You can also request the 2009 maps at the same time. Ask nicely and they should send you the dvd for free.

I use a Razor phone charger on my unit.

I think I had to register mine twice before it "took". Then the website gave me "No Updates Available" for a few months even though the database for businesses was out of date in a lot of cases. Then about a month ago it finally said an update was available which I think was actually a reload of the entire database because it was so big. Installed it, seems to still work but I haven't noticed anything different yet. Some of the businesses are gone but most of the roads are there. A few streets it doesn't have line art for, and sometimes it gets confused about which direction to take when freeways diverge, but thats just how it is.
