The people that are hurt the most by the increasing energy prices are those on low incomes and fixed budgets (read: mainly disabled and elderly). As well as the working man/woman who has a long commute. The big earners like yourself don't have anything to worry about.

I'm fortunate to be able to afford all the gas I can burn too, but, remember, not everyone is so fortunate.

Second, funny how you are so quick to judge without even knowing me. Just because I drive a Lexus, that makes me a big earner now? For your information (not like you care), I just graduated from college and have been working since sophomore year of high school because my parents are from low income background. I worked my ass off all through college to pay for my own tuition, clothes, RENT, books...everything because I didn't want to burden my parents. The only reason why I could afford a lexus is because I moved back home so I won't have to pay for rent ($600 a month for the past 4 years). So before you make assumptions about who I am as a person, learn a bit about me first.

Dodge 1500 Cargo Van. 32 gallon tank. About 15 miles/gallon. ~$80 fill up twice a week.

Probably spend about $700 month to fill up my work van.

This is my money maker so $700/month is small price to pay.

My Tahoe is used nearly 100% for work, so I write of my mileage.
That helps, and I need a full-sized vehicle for two reasons:
One, I'm 6'4", and 270+lbs.
Two, I need the space for my tools and supplies.

I am driving a small 4 cyliners SUV with 20 mpg in the city and a commute of 30 miles per day total. I will cut it down to 20 miles per day in two weeks. I still missed the <5 miles round trip of my old job.

BTW, my fillup right now is around $30, used to pay around $20.

YES; and when my wife plows into your econobox with her vehicle on the way back from soccer practice (see sig) because she is too busy dialing the spa for an appointment it shouldn't dent her schedule.

As far as gas prices, I get reimbursed for mileage 2 weeks out of the month and drive a company vehicle the other two.
My Maxima doesn't get the best mpg, I would estimate out 18 mpg in combined hwy & city.

Well anyway, up till now, I've been relegated a couple full size Ford cars, a few $45,000 imports and overpriced SUVs to fill the bill. Now that gas is so expensive, I see a chance to get an SUV for a better price, but it still hasn't happened yet. They're STILL too expensive!

Hmm $3 a gallon means $750 a year more in fuel expenses, not great but not bad I guess. When it hits $6 a gallon that's going to mean $2250 more a year in fuel expenses. That's going to be a bit of an oucher. Hopefully by then we'll be off an oil economy or I'll be making a lot more.

Because of this hurricane, I predict a temporary spike of $4 a gallon and it settling down to the low $3's after that.
I don't think we'll see $6 a gallon for a while, but it could be as little as 2 years or as much as 15 years before it hits $6 a gallon.
