Increased demand and limited manufacturing ability--yeah its Exxon's fault they have their hands tied in manufacturing and people demand more gas

Government has a sweet deal: They don't have to do a damn thing to make the gas but get a nice chunk and are never scrutized when gas prices go up. Funny how no one blames government for pincing our wallets when gas prices go up.

How is it record demand? I fail at how that is. I am sure once it went over $2 a lot of people, especially the poor have changed their driving habits, I sure the hell did, I go no where, are you really saying that now thats its over $3, more people can afford to drive more then ever before, and there is now a record demand for the stuff. BS BS BS. Less people are driving, more people are driving better economy cars, and your throwing its going to cost you $4 a gallon because there is a record demand for gas. Fvck you gas oil people, record demand for money in your god damn pocket is what it is. Less people are driving so now you got to go hike up the prices even more to make up for the ones who are not driving as much as they used to.

Yes all BS BS BS

I drive 75 miles round trip to work and hate the gas prices but I want to SOLVE it. Not just blame BP and Exxon because it's the "cool" thing to do and because it's easy. Build more refinerys and FFS drill in the US.
People don't want to drill is the US so they force us to import and don't want more refinerys so we further limit our supply--it's like they want high gas prices.

Hello McFly anybody home?

Oil supply has been highest in over 5 years, in fact a couple of weeks ago there was an oil spill at the Cushing Oklahoma Oil Depot because they had too much oil and not enough storage.

How bout the Refinery crap, show me gas stations oput of gas all over the country.

Thats your problem right there. If you do the math, you could by a more expensive place closer to your job, and not lose money. It never ceases to amaze me that people don;t grasp the economic principals of commuting. If you live more than 12 miles away from your job, it does not make economic sene to commute in, except perhaps by rail. So, if you want the big house in the burbs, quit complaining about how much it costs you to drive to work or get a new job.

I am personally happy that gas prices are what they are. If anything, they drive American corporations and the government to realize that a viable alternative to oil is needed. Moreover, once that alternative is found, we can tell leave all the countries in the middle east to kill themselves.

So the answer is to burn all suburbs and subdivisions in the country to the ground and all live as packed as possible in the cities???

So, if demand is up 400k barrels per day (our total usage is over 20 million bbl per day IIRC), how does that merit local increases of 17%?

According to that site, demand is lower now than last August, yet prices are the same. $3.12 - $3.19 for regular.

And I would win a $100 bet with you that if refinery construction rules were relaxed, no oil company would break ground. Why would they increase supply?

No, the answer is to live closer to your job. Granted, to be feasible, the country may have to take a lok at how its developments are panned and have more, but smaller, cities and work centers. That is, instead of 1 giant city ala New York or L.A., how about 10 cities 1/10 the size and spread out a bit more. that way population density in spread out more and people can live closer to work.

But then again, I am preaching to the wrong crowd here. All you want to hear is what you want to hear. If 51% of americans and politicians would finally come to the realization that oil is not the solution to all of our energy problems, more would get done towards finding a truly alternative and viable solution.

I get .45 cents per mile of commute from my job. I live 25 miles away from the work place. nothing beats making money while commuting.

actually the math works the other way around. people commute because they can buy a nicer bigger house in the suburbs even when the gas/commute costs are taken into account. its a perfectly rational decision, even with 3 dollar gas.

Absolutely. We moved an hour from our jobs (not the suburbs, though) to save $600 a month for a comparable house. Our monthly fuel bill increased from $60 to $250. Sounds good to me and no, the commute is not killer. 58 miles, 68 minutes. 2 lane highway.

gas around here is $2.90-$2.99 for regular unleaded. What stupid about these prices, is that a barrel of oil right now is around $66, while last spring/summer it was somewhere from $72-$78. Back then we were paying around $3.00 a gallon. So right now, a barrel of oil is $6-$12 cheaper but yet were paying more for the gasoline.

another things, as diesel and gasoline prices continue to rise. Everything we buy at the grocery store is going to increase in price.
