I had always thought that Jude Law killed himself at the end, to in effect destroy the two halves of the supposed persona, leaving Vincent as the "real" and "true" remaining person, so that the fraud could never be found out. I mean, if that wasn't true, then why was Jude Laws' character "storing up" so many of the various bodily essences necessary to continue the deception, if that were in fact not true? He ended his own "failed" life, to give Vincent the freedom to live his successful dream un-encumbered.

Edit: I may have the characters confused here, Vincent = Ethan Hawke, Jerome = Jude Law, no? I hope that I didn't confuse Vincent's brother with the fellow selling his bodily fluids here. I'll have to watch it again, I guess.

I don't think his son was literally a fan. I think the doctor was basically saying "I knew it all along." and "I sympathize with you because my son is presumed incapable of achieving his dreams as we.."

Actually, no, they weren't like that. The majority of sci-fi movies over the years have relied upon special effects, models and makeup. Look at any of thes genre of movies over the decades, from The Day the Earth Stood Still to Godzilla movies to Tron to Alien to Pitch Black, they all required special effects and such. Gattaca just happened to be written with a storyline that didn't require big special effects, and it turned out to be a very good movie.

It does show that movies with a real story are always preferable to some mindless action/effects flick, but even flicks with lots of effects and action like Alien do well because the story is there to support it.

Me and my friend got into a slight argument over the ending of this movie. Specifically the part with the doctor and when he says "My son is a big fan of yours". What exactly does he mean by this? My friend says the doctor is really his (Ethan Hawke's) father, but that would make absolutely no sense.

no no, its not his dad, however the Dr has a son that was god born like Vincent. And the Dr respects everything he has done for himself, and knows how rough it can be, having a son that has the same problem, which is why he helps him at the end there.

Also, the DOctor caught on to Ethan Hawke's deception when he caught him peeing with his left hand while writing with his right hand....

No no, not that at all....Jude Tried to kill himself the 1st time by walking in front of a car. The whole 2nd place in swimming incident made him upset that he couldnt do all that he was promised... And he even failed at killing himself, as he said. This was just his way of finishing himself off, because he was always sour about only getting 2nd in the swim race.
