I just saw this, I Tivo'ed in off of HBO the other day and finally got around to seeing it for the first time, I really liked it though and agree with it having that more classic style of Sci-fi that is missing in modern day movies, I was surprised to see that Danny Devito was the director.

And for those asking when took place, in the beginning of the movie is says "in the not so far future" or something to that effect.

I give it

LOL, nope that wasn't it.

There was another thread I read and can't even remember wth it was about now but someone in there said something about the post reminding them of this movie and that reminded me that I had in Tivo'ed and never did watch it.

Saw it in my HS Biology class. I liked it for its realistic depiction of the future.

I enjoyed it. Actually they filmed it at the futuristic, Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Marin County Civic Center while I was working there, interning at the Public Defender's Office.

it did end with him shooting off into space, but before that, he mentioned to uma therman that he was so many thousand heartbeats beyond his estimated heart failure. this basically means that his 1% chance of living came true, but it also means that he still has a weak heart, so he still has a possibility of having a heart failure later on.
But the point was that the pre-determined predictions for his "fate" didn't come true, and that he was realizing his dream in spite of that. I think that was kind of the point of the ending.

Practically-speaking, in terms of the overall good of the space program, perhaps he was being personally-selfish, a bit. But on the other hand, isn't a bit of that required, in order to achieve your goals? If you live your life only for everyone else around you, and according to what they say, you will never have or achieve anything for yourself.

Btw, another couple of movies with similar themes, Fifth Element (well, not that much in common), and Minority Report (another chilling potential-near-future look, this time about law-enforcement).

I actually saw them filming that movie years back at Cal Poly Pomona. I was at the adminissions office and they wouldn't let me out of the building because they were actually filming at the moment when I tried to walk out.

That's it :|

Thought it would be something cool.

So would it have been called something else if eveything was based off RNA? Isn't there something like U that replaces the C?
