I got screwed by SVC as well. I posted a long thread about it in BRAG and MOAN. Basically, they didn't ship 5 item of my order, the Radimax power supplies had their warantee seal broken, and daily phone calls/messages/emails were left unanswered.

Funny that I got an email from them about 4 hours after I submitted a charge dispute to Citibank. Too bad that they have lost my business.

I recently (probably about a month back) placed an order with SVC, and requested the 3-day UPS shipping, because I wanted to make sure to get it ASAP... and they sent it out UPS ground so it took like 2 weeks :-\

I placed an order with svc 2 weeks ago and still have not gotten a thang. 9/23/02. Shipping was fine, but I want the hs/f I ordered. I will try and find a phone number to inquire.
I just received both of my orders from SVC tonight and I ordered one of them more than 2 weeks ago. I was watching the UPS tracker as it made it out to my local Illinois hub and then went back to California again for a little detour. When I finally got the box, I understood why. SVC is horrible about labeling their packages. My package was missing my name and had my phone number in its place instead. There was even some sticker partially blocking my zip code. WTF!?

Anyway.. What are you guys saying about the bottoms of the HS? Mine is textured, but not really rough. It's like it has some sort of texture machined into it. Is that what you're referring to? I've heard that lapping the hs really don't matter that much. Actually, I've heard that having the surface a little less than totally mirror like, lets the AS3 bind to something and it fills it in anyway. I don't know.. I think it could be a little smoother, but what do I know?

Also.. Was I reading something about these things not going on correctly? Is there something with the clip or installation that I have to be concerned with? Please let me know? I don't want to burn my chip.

One last thing. I'm thinking about using a NMB 18 cfm fan on the GC68 to cool a non OC Duron 750. Bad idea?

I compared two GC68's...one from earlier this year and the one I just received. It appears that the "trench" milled into the newer ones is deeper and therefore the clip doesn't put as much pressure on the heatsink as the old ones did. I first thought it was the clip, so I took one of the older GC68's out (which was hard has heck with it's clip compared to the new one) and used the older clip on the new heatsink. It was still very loose. I then held them side by side and could see a thickness difference in the trench where the clip lies. I bent the clip about 20-25 degrees and then installed. Much better this time....still not as tight as the original, but I guess I could have bent it more.

As far as the bottom surface goes, I have also heard that lapping to a mirror finish might not be desirable...but the finish that was originally on the heatsink was very rough...looked like a saw cut vs something with a grind or sanded finish. Also, it was very uneven...took about 10 minutes with 400 grit just to get an even finish on the bottom (using 400 grit wet on a glass surface). I could also lay the heatsink on a flat surface and see curvature in the bottom (before lapping). I think a little lapping would help all of these...maybe not a mirror finish, but at least to smooth it out a little.

Good Luck all....

SVC has been going down lately so I'm posting an alternate place to purchase this bang for bux cooler.

I ordered a few of the GC68's and some Arctic Silver III from SVC on Mon Sept 30, and it was shipped Priority mail that next day...and was received that Thursday. That was my first time doing business with them. I just ordered a substantially larger order yesterday, will see how they handle that one...

I just received 2 GC68s from SVC and was curious about how the finish on the bottom affected CPU temps.

I lapped one GC68 to a mirror finish and left the other one stock. I then ran the Sandra burn in wizard for 20 iterations for each one while monitoring the temps. The test setup was a 1600 XP (1400 MHz) on an Asus A7N266-VM MB, case open, Artic Silver. Ambient temperature during the test was 70 - 71 F.

The mirror finish one stabilized at 36 C at the 5th iteration, while the stock one stabilized at 37 C at the 13th iteration.

All the GC-68's I used to sell were mirror finished. In my own testing, the mirror finish performance better than the 'rugged' finish. The Key is to make sure you have an extremely thin layer of thermal compound.

GC-68 kills the retail AMD cooler, and is pretty much silent.

SVC and Xoxide are both good companies and have good Owners. They are not out to cheat you in any way.

From our man inside SVC:

I want to thank you for continuing to do business with SVC. Unfortunately, Zclyh3 was deleted from the forums indefinitely. I had apparantly violated the rules of the fourms, so Zclyh3 is no more. I will continue to do my best to serve customers via private message. I will not be using this name for regular posting. Again, I'm here for Anandtecher's. Zclyh4 will only remain as my direct CSR name. It will not be used for anything else but PRIVATE SVC CSR. I will create another name for personal use, which shall remain unknown. I'm just here to keep it real. Please spread the word that I created a new name. Like I said, this name will ONLY be PM only. But again, I would like to thank you.

Tony

SVC has been one of my favorite sites. They lost my business, but I reordered because of Zclyh3. I have received my UPS notification from SVC. Fast...so give Zclyh3 some help. All AT'ers who need products - if the price is right, use SVC!

I'm bringing this back from the dead...

I just got off the phone with Matt from SVC. It seems that perhaps things did get turned around there.

I had an order from early October which was shipped incomplete, after weeks of trying to get a hold of someone I gave up and disputed the charges.

I called today to give them a "last chance", and to verify address to return the partial shipment.

The phone picked up right away (suprise), and the CSR took my info and indicated that the stuff would ship same day.

He also took the time to explain that their main guy (Albert?) had left and there was no one there to manage things for a while.

Now they are under "new management" and are trying to improve.

That seems to be the trouble with smaller companies, some working on a shoe string like budget. If the guy who has the key to the employee entrance door gets sick or quits, the entire company comes to a grinding halt.
