Is Gears Of War for the PC any good ? I played it a good while ago on the 360 and it was fun.

So how is the port ? I am also having alot of problems finding it for sale.

Does it have any type of DRM I should be concerned about ? As in if I bought a used copy.

It uses GFWL, not sure if that has any impact on resale. The game ran fine and looked great on my gtx260. Make sure to force on vsync with your GPU drivers as it is broken in game and induces a lot of screen tearing.

Please enlighten me on GFWL. I am not sure what this is. Games For Windows Live ? How does this work ?

So it shouldn't matter if I purchase a used copy ?

GoW is great!
It uses GFWL, but you can make an offline account too.

The story and characters are really cool and you can play coop with a friend!
And the game uses DirectX 10.

i enjoyed GoW PC a lot. the only thing that is really screwed up, IMO, is the multiplayer chat. you have to use a console command if you want to type things.

otherwise, i've played it multiple times and always had a great time both SP and MP.

I liked it, but you're better off not playing it since the rest of the games will never see a PC release. It will only leave you wanting more.

I enjoyed the first one, and don't really care if the second comes to PC or not. It's a shooter with a mediocre story that you'll forget after a while. OOOO monsters come up from the ground, kill them all, that's the storyline.

Pick up the first one if you can find it cheaply. GFWL SUCKS, but you might as well have an account if you don't already, because you'll need it for other releases such as Batman: AA, which is vastly superior to GoW, though a different genre.

It's great, but it's meant to be played with a controller IMO. I dug GoW1 on PC and GoW2 on the 360.

edit: GoW PC also has a bug that prevents it from working due to a windows digital signature expiration issue. It has been fixed, but you'll have to download a patch before it will work: http://download.microsoft.com/downl...1-9E28-02E3356FEC3F/GearsPC_TU3_Microsoft.exe

Gears for the PC was a whole lot of fun. As long as you have a semi-decent system it will run pretty good.

It ran great (40-75fps) on an Athlon s939 X2 4200+ 2.2ghz and an 8800GTS 320mb/Radeon 3850 512mb. I haven't tried it on my much more powerful system that I have now. I imagine it runs pretty sweet.

It's pretty good. Try it with a 360 controller if you prefer. I don't think it makes a huge difference. Sure it was meant for a 360 controller, but it's not like it didn't adapt well enough to keyboard and mouse.

That's debatable. Although its not from the exact view as first person, it has just about every camera aspect of first person. In no way is it free-look third person. It's from the general perspective of first person but raised.

It has all the same control qualities and requirements as a FPS.

Using a slow inferior controller helps to keep you from noticing the huge lag you get from not having dedicated servers.

I played it on pc before even getting an xbox. It was a joy to play on pc. Well worth picking up for 20.00 or less right now. It's not like most FPS though and does take some time to get used to on a kb/m.
