How true is this?

At the absolute earliest, you'd think going on the every 6 month cycle that it would be August/September, but tbh, GeForce 8 will have to be DX10, and that will only be made available when Windows Vista comes out, which could be into 2007... more likely, another GeForce 7 card will come out inbetween, if required.

well with vista being pushed back, im sure theres room for one more DX9 part to squeeze in and milk some money out of it, and more importantly put them back ontop of the pile. Ati dont have them over a barrel, but they do have them beat at performance and IQ. no boss likes to see his company beaten. they would have to do it fairly soon else it will be shortlived and pointless

you guys need to understand there will be a Geforce 8 series whether Vista is out or not. the cards will be "DX10 capable" so there is no reason to make another DX9 only card. some people will be upgrading there pc to Vista and if they have the Geforce 8 series they will already have a capable card.

What you are saying here makes sense, and I could see another refresh of the current generation from both ATI and NVIDIA. What ever happened to the rumored R590 X1950XTX (80nm, 750/900) from a while back?

no it doesnt make a whole lot of sense. did you even read my reply right before this. what would they call it anyway since 7900 and 7950 are already being used? please use a little common sense.

It could really go either way, depending on how long it takes Vista to hit the market... As far as reading your posts, I tend to not read stuff all bold or all caps as people that yell at me tend to get on my nerves.

edit: X1950XTX and 7990GTX would work just fine...

ONE MORE TIME. GEFORCE 8 SERIES DOES NOT HAVE TO WAIT ON VISTA. can you read at all? maybe you can read this since its not bold. the 8 series cards will work on XP. then they will be able to use the DX10 features when Vista comes out.

Again with the yelling... I get it, and I knew that before you ever posted here. What you may or may not know is that there are concerns that DX9 performance may actually be worse on DX10 cards, since the DX10 isn't directly backwards compatible to DX9. If that is the case, it would make sense to continue using DX9 (only) cards until DX10 comes out and is in widespread use. Since neither you or I know the answers to these questions, it's all conjecture at this point and certainly no reason to get all bunched up...

sorry about that. it just drives me nuts when people say that new cards wont be out till Vista. theres no way Nvidia is going to wait 8 or 9 months for Vista. they may prolong the release a couple of months but thats about it. ok its naptime for me.

There is no point if it isn't out by June-July.

1) A 7900GT isn't good enough to play games even at 1280*1024 without aa and af. So I am strongly against 7900GT.

I wouldn't expect it to be released until late August at the soonest.

I'm not sure what you are thinking, but my 7900GT runs every game I have at 1920x1200, with 16xAF (I don't use AA). It runs Oblivion wonderfully.

agreed.

Nobody here knows when it will be out. Or if they do, they aren't allowed to tell. But I can say with 99% confidence that it will not be out until August at the very earliest, and furthermore I'm fairly sure it may even be released later than that, like September-October timeframe. The bottom line is there's no point waiting for it if you need a new card now.

I see next January as more realistic for both cards. I think both ATI and Nvidia will make a new high end refresh at the end of the summer. It seems that gpu?s are back on the 6 month cycle.

The 6 month cycle you talk of is: new generation every year, refresh every half year.

I don't see how nvidia won't release a new gen at late summer/early fall. G70 will be over a year old at that point.

The GT and GTX aren't really that different. GTX has twice the memory, higher clocks, and more robust voltage regulation IIRC. They use the exact same GPU chip and there are no disabled quads. If you clock the GT to GTX speeds, you have a GTX for all intents and purposes with half the memory. Compare 7900GT/7900GTX

6600GT and 6800GT are a lot less similar. They don't even use the same GPU. (110nm NV43 vs 130nm NV45) Compare 6600GT/6800GT

did you even read the posts here? there is no way in hell Nvidia is waiting 8 more months to release there next series. there is nothing left to refresh on the top end. they have even ran out of things to call them.

but would nvidia release a new graphics card series without waiting for DX10? it would be pointless, as well as a waste of development money.

Welcome to AT.

Didnt realise how expensive the cards are in India.

Im safe to say the 7900GTX is faster than the X1900XT in most games. But its a different story with the X1900XTX. (this is rather interesting, because in most reviews, i see the X1900XT sometimes performing worse even with the 50mhz difference compared to the X1900XTX)

Anyways, Geforce 8. Rumours are that it supports S.M 4.0, GDDR4, its a "hybrid" design meaning its not unfied architecture but rather your PS/VS/GS/TU will be dedicated, supports DX10, most appropriately support HDR plus AA, could come out with SLi2 and pure video2 (these need an update really, theyve been out for ~2 years now compared to AVIVO etc). NV have spent 3~4 years, and 250M dollars into this little "scicene" project, so im assuming the jump will be a big one. Like the X850 to X1800. Could be on 90nm process, because TSMC is having trouble with 80nm for some reason. (A reason why the R570/560 is going to be 90nm instead of 80nm)

They missed their first tape out, but that could be because of the delay of Vista again. But im suspecting August, or somewhere around that time.
