satisfaction welcome to AT you just met 5150 Joker please take him with a grain of salt. He is like sandpaper usefull sometimes but just a bit irritating sometimes. It's just that we get this question alot.

The G80 is rumor right now. Some say this summer sometime. I would google it or search some threads here for more info. Just don't put too much faith into the INQ. they are a major rumor mill.

Hope this helps.

How true is this?

At the absolute earliest, you'd think going on the every 6 month cycle that it would be August/September, but tbh, GeForce 8 will have to be DX10, and that will only be made available when Windows Vista comes out, which could be into 2007... more likely, another GeForce 7 card will come out inbetween, if required.

I reckon the putting the topic summary as "The Big Daddy of all Cards" is clearly trollage. But what do I know.

No one knows squat about the prices or release dates of the next gen cards. Unless of course they're under NDA in which case they can't tell you. Any dates/Prices etc are ALL rumours.

Thanksgiving 2006. Or maybe Christmas 2006.
There is absolutely NO NEED to launch faster cards when they are just gearing up to pimp Quad-SLI.

Forget the 2560x1600 minorities...1920x1200 is the elite resolution of choice. And two 7900GT/GTXs can easily handle ANY GAME out there at that resolution. Why supply a product that has no demand? They might as well try and maximize their returns on the millions of dollars the G70/G71 R&D cost.

The new wave of cards will arrive just in time for leaked UT2007/Crysis/Alan Wake benchmarks (from HKEPC).

Unless you're a diehard Nvidia fan I'd go with an X1900XT over a 7900GTX at this point. Cheaper and generally outperforms it. If your monitor only supports up to 1280x1024, than I'd save some money and get either a factory oced 7900GT (~$300-340) or an X1800XT (~$240 or $300 for the 512MB version). G80 and R600 probably won't be out until the end of the year sometime IMO.

the Geforce 8 series will be out way before Vista. Geforce 8 will be DX10 compatible but will you just have to wait until Vista to utilise those features. the Geforce 8 series will of course be able to run DX9 in Windows XP. by the time Vista comes out there will probably already be a refresh of the 8 series cards

When will geforce 8 be out?
There is no point if it isn't out by June-July.

1) A 7900GT isn't good enough to play games even at 1280*1024 without aa and af. So I am strongly against 7900GT.

2) I live in India and the cost of 7900GTX is around Rs.32000 and the 1900XT for about Rs.37000. 1 USD = Rs. 45

3) 1900XT uses more power supply and in that case I may need to go in for a new one leading to a price difference of almost 150-200$.

4)According to most benchmarks, the 7900GTX beats the 1900XT.

5) By the way is there any way to check whether a mobo has an agp/pci e slot without opening the cabinet?

6)Please answer the power requirement question?

The 7900 GT can easily be OCed to near GTX levels.

holy hell its amazing how badly you're being ripped off there. i've been researching the x1900xt as well for my next upgrade and moving here to canada was probably the best thing i ever did in regards to computer hardware hehe because at the moment the current prices here equate to roughly Rs. 21000 for the XT. I'm originally from India too btw.

I won't be ocing anything at the moment.
There is too much diff between GT and GTX AFAIK, as much as there is between a 6600gt and 6800gt

OK, some basic/dumb questions:
1. Will DX10 come out before Vista? Or does DX10 work only under Vista?
2. Can a card be DX10-compatible before DX10 is even released?

DX10 only works under Vista, so it will not work on XP ever.
2. Can a card be DX10-compatible before DX10 is even released?
Yes, because both ATI and NV have the DX10 spec, so they can design cards in advance and potentially release them before DX10 is available to the public.

well i would say for now yes dx10 will only work under vista so obviously you're not going to see it come out before vista. for the 2nd part of the question i wouldnt say that it will never work on xp

I wouldn't expect it to be released until late August at the soonest.

I'm not sure what you are thinking, but my 7900GT runs every game I have at 1920x1200, with 16xAF (I don't use AA). It runs Oblivion wonderfully.

We don't know. However, I think most people would disagree with you... IMO, there really isn't much point to a DX10 card before DX10 is available and there are actually games that can use it.
1) A 7900GT isn't good enough to play games even at 1280*1024 without aa and af. So I am strongly against 7900GT.
Probably depends on the game... I'm with you on that 7900GT though, there are a lot of people on this board who rave about them, but I wasn't very impressed with the 7900GT SLI set (eVGA CO SC) I had. Not only did they only peform about as well as a single X1900XTX, but they were much less stable.
2) I live in India and the cost of 7900GTX is around Rs.32000 and the 1900XT for about Rs.37000. 1 USD = Rs. 45
$814USD for an X1900XT... damn...
3) 1900XT uses more power supply and in that case I may need to go in for a new one leading to a price difference of almost 150-200$.
If you want a decent computer, all your components have to be decent, not just some of them...
4)According to most benchmarks, the 7900GTX beats the 1900XT.
Depends on what you bench... Most of the newer games play better on the X1900XT from what I've seen. Honestly, the cards are generally pretty closely matched. I see the pattern here though, and you sound like you want a NV card... So, get a NV card...
5) By the way is there any way to check whether a mobo has an agp/pci e slot without opening the cabinet?
The A8N-E is a PCI-E motherboard...
6)Please answer the power requirement question?
Not sure what you're asking...
