Geforce FX 5900 ETA June

"June" is too vague, does someone have a better idea of when this month they are coming out? I'm purchasing a whole new rig and the video card is the only item that i'm waiting for....I want the cheapest 5900 that comes out.

i dont think it will change much, the 5200,5600,5900 is nvidia's newline so prices wont change there. possibly a slight drop in the TI line

I talked with an NVidia rep. tonight at the AMD Tech Tour event I attended and asked when the new FX boards were going to be widely available. His answer: "The first week of July". This included the FX 5900 and the FX 5600 Ultra 256MB. The 5600 Ultra 256MB is going to be my next baby. Then an Athlon64 on nForceX (X being whatever code it is assigned).

The prices for the 5900 Ultra are going to be so high you might as well wait until Half Life 2 or Doom 3 releases then buy the best card available to play those games. Me Im just chillin with my 9700 Pro and will wait for Doom 3 then switch to Nvidia provided its the best card on the market at the time of purchase.

Okay, July is just too far off. June 16 would be the latest i can wait. I'm building a system now, not one month from now....the cpu and mboard are already on the way! To make matters worse, i HEARD around the net that the lower end 5900's won't be available inititally with the 500 dollar Ultra. My range is 300 dollars Absolute Max. Dammit, where is the angry face..........:| there it is

I need someone to reference me to a link, or to explain, what the difference is between the "new" 5600 ultra and the one that is already out. If i remember correctly, i saw a 256mb 5600 in CompUSA more than a month ago... so it cant be just an increase in memory. I need to know why it would be smarter to wait instead of plucking this 5600 from newegg today, or even going for a radeon 9700 for <$250.

The FX5800s are around $300, and substantially outperform the 5600s. I'm loving mine so far, a very nice card for $300..

The Geforce FX 5900 Ultra looks good but, alas, it won't be affordable for most people. Now, The GeForce FX 5800 Ultra would be great especially if the price drops even more (and they're still available). For now, though, my MSI GeForce4-Ti4400 at 330/650 will do me just fine for Doom III and Half-life 2.

iv been using my 9800 for a week or so now, but still might grab a 5900 when it comes out. its going to be faster than what i have now right?

The 5800 non-ultra might be an option, however the cheapest i see it on newegg is $330.00, and that is creeping above my limit. It would be perfection if my new system would be built with all new parts, but im thinking the smartest thing to do is use the geforce 2 gts in my currrent system until the 5900 value comes out for $299.

I'm thinking for 300 bucks, i should be able to get 256 megs of 256 bit memory. And i want a card that produces a bit better numbers than what im seeing with the new 5600 ultras.

Has anyone contemplated why the 5900U will be so expensive? It uses cheaper ram then the 5800U and a lower core and mem clock. If you ask me, the profit margins must be huge on these new ones. If nVidia admits that the NV30 was crap, they should replace it, not make a cheaper card more expensive just so that it doesn't drown out sales of the 5800U.

The only card that has 256MBs of 256 bit memory is the Radeon 8500, and it costs $500, not $300. The 5600 Ultras numbers are lower because it only has half the pipelines of the 5800s, and slower DDR1 memory.

It sounds to me like your best bet is a R9700Pro, which is $300 and has 128MB of 256 bit memory.

Its going to a waste of dough! Why buy that card when it barely " I mean barely" out preforms 5800 ? First Tests: NVidia's 5900 FX Chip Buy a Ti4800 for less than half the cost, it will run the crap out of any game thats out now! Next year when the New games come out , I:E Doom 3 - Half Life 2- then look at the 5900 hundred, Or I'm sure there will be something alot better then. Why buy a $400 dollar card now, when my $175 card will play the games JUST AS GOOD?

Errrr, I guess that depends on how you define "just as good", but I suppose if you mean "about half as fast at a lot of settings, or less, and about 6th fastest", sure.

9800>9700Pro/5800Ultra>9700np/5800>9500Pro>Ti4600 is approximately the hierarchy these days. The 4600s day has come and gone, ATIs 9700/9800 line is too strong, and the 5800s stomp 4600s pretty handily too.
