Geforce ti4200 problems, please help!

I have a MSI-6341 motherboard with the AMD 760 northbridge and Via 686b southbridge chipsets and i recently bought a Gainward GeForce 4 Ultra 650 XP Golden Sample video card. I also recently bought a 3com 10/100 Office Connect nic card. The video card works great in windows and the vivo stuff works as well, but the moment i try and run a game (ive tried many) the system either locks up or i get a stop error in windows and the blue screen of death comes up. I had a tnt2 before and i had no problems at all, and now it is screwey. I have tried reflashing my bios and different os's moving around my nic card in case of irq conflicts... I have tried many drivers for the card and for my motherboard, the Via 4 in 1 and the AMD driver pack and im still stumped... Is it my motherboard thats screwing up the video, the nic? Do i need new bios settings for my agp port? I am getting quite confused and would appreciate any help!

I would try to run bare components in your computer, take out any sound cards, nic cards, modems, and another other unnecessary computer parts. Then try running a game, if it actually runs, its one of those components you just took out, one by one, insert them back in, until you find out which card/component is crashing your system.

If it doesn't work, then you narrowed down the problem to either an OS problem, bios, mobo or videocard problem.

You could perhaps then try your videocard in another system, or another videocard in your system (your tnt2), and you can narrow the problem down to your card, or other components/factors.

Alright i removed everything vital, which wasnt the proble, so then i tried all the drivers i could find, also not the problem... then i started messing around in my bios (which i think is messed up because in order for my sound to work i have to turn it off in the bios for it to work in windows or something like that) and i changed my agp port to 1/2x and bam the card works fine, but my question is why? I ran 3dmark 2001 se and got 7660 3dmarks at 1024x768 32-bit with 32-bit textures (no compression)... is that considered good? (before my scores were <1000 so there defintly is an improvement hehe) i have a 1.4 ghz t-bird with 512 of PC2100 DDR... right now nothing in my computer is overclocked, would you say that its working, but slowly? or is it working fine and my bios is just plain scrwey and i should just go ahead and never look back?

make sure you assign at least 128 meg. of system memory to your' agp port in the bios.
