I've talked to a couple people about this who say it's great specialty RAM that has faired quite well in reviews. Is it really good? Who is their target market?

Me too. I need to buy some DR333 and need to know if this memory is any good.

Well from everything ive read over the last 12 months, including all the reviews, seems to me general consensus from best to worst goes like this: #1 Corsair, #2 OCZ, #3 Geil. Both OCZ and Geil have had a very shoddy past, but both seem to have improved tremendously over the last few months with their new products. Corsair is very expensive, but seems to be highest rated.

Has everyone forgotten Crucial? They're my stalwart favorite, but I'm wondering if GeIL is better or not. Bump for more!

I am still weary about OCZ branded stuff but I must admit they are improving.

Crucial?! What I mean they are a great brand super stable and all. But they are not known as early adopters. Therefore you won't see any PC3200 out of Crucial in the near furture. Once it is a real standard for a few months I'm sure they'll pick it up.

I would say to Geil, "I wouldn't touch you with a 39 and a half foot pole." Samsung, Mushkin, Crucial, Kingston, and Corsair are well trusted, but not OCZ or Geil. However, I am intrigued by this thread where OCZ 3700DDR is used in overclocking. Peace.

I can't speak for everyone, but my OCZ PC3500 EL runs exactly what it's rated and then some. It is good stuff in my book. And a good bit cheaper than comparable Corsair. Plus, every review I have read of this RAM has also been very successful, so I think OCZ is a pretty safe bet.

Except they announced sale of PC3200 yesterday....

Granted it's not as fast as their regular offerings (CL3), but they have it. Don't be too quick to judge them.

I am using Samsung DDR here, it works very well, and runs cool and stable. From the reviews I have read Geil works fine in P4 systems but not in AMD for some reason.

If money was not an issue, I would go with Mushkin. The last Corsair I bought had problems and I had to return.

So if money is an issue, I vote for Samsung, if its not, then Mushkin.

my $ .02

Gell is overclocked before it leaves the factory, thats why most of them suck up 2.7volts to remain stable.

Just to add my two cents here.

I highly recomend corsair, yes it's more expensive then some of the other stuff that's out there but then again there is a reason for that.
Corsair's memory is rated at what it was built for, no overclocking.
They have a lifetime warranty but what does that really cover? Well let me tell you what happened to me.

I was one of the people that was able to get in on the intel cpu/mobo combo (D845PEBT2 + 2.53GHz + winXP) and knowing that this mobo does support DDR333 I wanted to get the best stick of memory out there, however I also new of the limitations of this board with regards to overclocking so I wanted to get some memory that might be future proof as well. After researching I finally decided on the corsair and picked up a 512XMS pc3200 @ cas2 from googlegear. Once I received the stick I immediately installed it only to have my system beep at me The beeps referred to the memory as being the culprit. So after deciding not to call googlegear because I just didn't trust them (it was my first purchase from them and now I realize that they weren't at fault) I decided to rma it directly to corsair. I had no problems doing that and got a new stick with in a couple of days. Unfortunately after I installed the new memory I got the same beep code:| So I go to corsairs message board for help and after getting help it turns out that the DDR400 spec has not been created officially and that corsair was basing their spd programing on what they thought it would be. Luckily they did have a fix for it and all future memory would be shipped with the fix. I was a little upset because now I would have to pay for shipping again just to get some working memory and finally be able to use my system, corsair was sympathetic and let me use there shipping account to ship it back to them for free
Well I got the new memory and it has worked flawlessly at the most aggressive timings.

What's my point? Well how much is your time worth? If the same thing happened to you would the company you bought from have done the same thing?
When I think of other manufactures like OCZ and how they "make" their memory I think about all the issues one might have with them whether it's hardware or customer service related and I think about just how much all the potential issues factor into my overall cost and how much a piece of mind is worth to me.

<<<End rant

I know some will just read this and their future purchase will just boil down to money but hopefully some may see it's importance.
