The US is not, and never will be Iran, NK, etc.

I wasn't making either of those assertions really. More that your generalization of life under brutal authoritarian regimes ignores some rather widespread, unpleasant realities. The sentient hemmoroid about to enter the White House has espoused admiration for how China and Russia both conduct themselves at times. I think you lack imagination, perhaps also an idea of how much power the christofascists are about to attain.

If you don't think a banana republic (with theocratic and dynastic elements maybe) run by a white, wealthy minority is their goal then you haven't been listening to them. Christians are a protected special class now according to SCROTUS, who also feels repugs are exempt from the 14th Amendment. I'll spare you the list of other things they've done once thought impossible or untenable just 20 years ago. Look I ate my humble pie and gave you credit for calling that epic goatfuck of an election in Nov, but I find your dismissive take on accelerating authoritarianism just baffling.

Magats turned their backs on America, and for a deranged orange traitor/felon/rapist/fraud. Giving up on democracy and the rule of law like they did doesn't interest me at all. Sorry to hear you don't live in a free/blue state.

Well, I wouldn't say we are all gonna get raped... but you def gonna get considered.
I mean it's not looking good.

Either Trump is "trolling" as Mr Fuckedinthehead keeps professing and the USA gets treated like a pariah by it's allies, or he's serious and the West is fucked.
Personally I don't like either of those options.

If I put on my seriously rose tinted glasses I can see this being good for EU and UK relations. Unfortunately it'll probably be very good for China and maybe Russia.

Its undoubtedly going to lesson the USs influence globally though.

I'm not disagreeing with you about their intent, in fact I have been the one harping about people's lack of imagination for awhile now.

I just don't think there's any stopping it. All this "resist" stuff is futile. They control all the important levers of power. It's GG. And an inept, corrupt, feckless Dem party isn't coming to save us. At best they are controlled opposition. And just wait until they get done putting together their "election integrity" bill. Voting won't matter.

Call it defeatist, fatalistic, whatever. It's our new reality now. We learn to live with it, one day at a time. Keep the people you love and care about close to you, it matters now more than ever before.

That's not what was said, and you know it.

A lot of the world lives under an oppressive government. But many people find a way to survive, live their lives, even thrive. We will too. We will have to.

Whatever dark interpretation you took from that is on you, not me. And I say this as someone who plans to carry my passport and copy of birth certificate with me at all times, moving forward.
It's a metaphor, sweetcheeks.

And I got a surprise for you!

Wait until the world gets comfortable with Trumps manifest destiny plans. China may make its boldest move yet for Taiwan.

WTF?
Are you saying Americans are not human?

First I heard of it bub.
You know what separates us from Iran, NK, etc?
Spoilers, it IS NOT our people. It is our institutions for the Rule of Law, as we try to protect Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness via the Bill of Rights.

Do you know who is destroying our institutions today?
The ONLY thing separating us from BEING evil incarnate. Is being torn apart. But yeah, act glib while you watch it happen.

Zeihan on point here.

The US is already projecting power from Greenland Iceland etc.. And if it wanted to mine for rubies you could just do so. The path Trump is on is how empires die.

If the US makes a move to shake up the geopolitical status quo then yea, China will have to make plays as well.

Trump is making a fuss over Panama and Greenland as a distractive ruse and cover for his daily fuck-ups, the empty promises he'll never make good on as well as covering for some other nefarious deeds he and his oligarch robber baron buddies are conspiring to enrich themselves beyond their wildest dreams. His promise of extending the measly crumbs of a tax cut for the working class is also a ruse as the very generous tax cuts he gave himself and his fellow billionaires were never subject to a sunset clause like the one he gave the middle class and the needy.

What they're doing unseen is so much bigger than what scant evidence pops up by mistake. And every lie and broken promise of Trump's that sees the light of day will of course be taken as nothing to see and something to ignore by his supporters just as it was during Trump's first term where making lame excuses and hoax retaliatory accusations to cover for Trump and his lackeys crimes and treasonous behavior was SOP.

Just wait to see what will happen to official objective government data. It will be meaningless.

Jeaninne Pirro says Harry Truman tried to buy Greenland in 1867.

What makes it truly impressive is that Truman did that 17 years before being born. Truly a man to be retconned with.

The truth is in 1867 William H. Seward SOS negotiated the Alaska Purchase from the Russian Empire. He that year considered the idea of United States annexation of both Greenland and Iceland an idea "worthy of serious consideration". And Truman did pitch a sale to Copenhagen in 1946.

Pirro .. put the “blither” in “blithering idiot”. This is a woman who approaches Rudy Giuliani levels of drunken buffoonery.

Normally, when your in the market for ... say, a car and I have one but don’t want to sell it, then no legitimate negotiation is possible. Most of the time you cannot bully anybody into selling their car. When someone tries to buy your car, or bully you into selling it, the natural assumption is that they want the car. And we would interact with them on that basis, even though you as the owner know it's not for sale

IMO ... That’s not Trump, at least not this time. Trump doesn’t want Canada, Greenland, and Panama. He doesn’t have the organizational skills to integrate new territory into the United States. He hasn’t thought about what the consequences would be. Canada (if a single state) would be bigger than California, and would shift the U.S. significantly to the left, politically. Even in Trumpworld it doesn’t make sense. He’s been bragging how much money his tariffs will bring in to balance the federal budget. If Canada becomes part of the U.S., they won’t be paying tariffs. Annexing them would cost us hundreds of billions of dollars. Trump doesn’t necessarily want those territories, he wants people talking about what a strong tough guy negotiator/dealmaker/president he’ll be. He has convinced his followers that he’ll negotiate for the strength and security of the U.S. But in reality, Trump negotiates for the greater glory of Trump.

America has been a police state since 911. Freedom is kind of a myth if you think and do things that are not mainstream, are considered radical or dangerous or "up to no good."

Your searches are monitored and stored even if you are not logged in, your money is always subject to seizure if you push the envelope and if you are perceived as an enemy of the state you could be debanked under absurd anti money laundering regulations that banks are forced to comply with.

Enjoy your "freedom".

Right?

Uh, I'm not sure you have any idea who you're talking to here, buddy.
I referenced "Freedom Cities" because they were an official part of Trump's platform for the election this time around.

Sorry, just had to rant.

And since we have the hard right about to take power I wonder how many Antifa members might eventually wind up being unable to access the US financial system once they began their activities.

Hmmm....🤔

Personally, I use DDG for most everyday searches and then use search over TOR for anything considered "out there".

All of them and none of them. This is the part where you finally realize that there never was an Antifa. It was all a lie.

You should ask it some questions, like :

TLDR : There is no Antifa.

Fascinating to see from someone who has been part of the hard right for so long, and cheered them along.

I have always been Republican but the new administration will be something like we have not seen before. I support change but within limits and hopefully with compromise.

You have to admit, Bush and Reagan are not Trump. Trump is only in it for Trump and if he has to sacrifice the country to get his way, so be it.

Who else would rally people to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power just to save face?

Who else would make deals while in the WH to favor his business interests? One was recently announced with Saudi Arabia to build data centers.

Who else would call for the ban of TickToc but then suddenly oppose it now that a billionaire political donor and part owner of TT is asking to stop it?
