Generic DDR 400 RAM

I own an Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo and want to put 512MB of DDR 400 RAM in it (256MB X 2). The problem is, where I am I can only easily find generic DDR 400 RAM. My question is how much does the name brand really matter? The memory chips are still Winbond or Samsung or Hynix, etc. Also, should I only buy it if the memory chips on the sticks are rated at 5ns or faster, since 6ns is the common for DDR 333 RAM?

Make sure it does not have HEAT SPREADERS. That is a big sign it is PC2700 or PC2100 and the spreader just covers up the ram.

Also if you do get generic make sure there is at least a one year warrenty AND the company is honest. And when you get it run the H__L out of it and test it to make sure it is 100% good

If you are not going to overclock, the generic will be fine. Again make sure the warranty is there and the place you are buying from is reputable.

Unlike other components, RAM is better to buy from a reputable name brand company that gives lifetime warranties because then you are much less likely to have flaky RAM which is probably the number 1 cause for system instability.
