I've been planning a new rig and I just wanted to put my ideas out there and see how it looks. Some extra opinions are always handy. The machine will be mostly for gaming, so that's pretty much the mindset to go with.

Case: Lian Li PC-7B Plus (Cooler Guys mod)
Mobo: DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-D ATX AMD
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego Core
Memory: Corsair 2GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 Value Select
HDD: Fujitsu MAS 3.5" SCSI Ultra320 68pin
Storage Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB
Video: eVGA GeForce PCX 6800gt
Sound: Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Burner: NEC ND-3520A BK
PSU: Enermax Whisper II EG465P-VE
Fans: Nexus 120mm Real Silent Case Fan D12SL-12
HSF: Thermalright XP-120

Any comments would be helpful, thanks!

hey, are you sure thats a 2 gig kit? I didn't know they made them.

Anyways, the dfi board and corsair memory are supposed to have problems with each other, as it will have post errors. To fix that, all you have to do is changethe mem voltage to 2.7 instead of the 2.6 stock. oh, and to change the voltage you need the latest bios.

Yeah, DfiDude, I plan on doing some OC on it. I think I've got some good cooling action going on for it, but I'm hardly an expert.

Might want to think about not getting value RAM with the DFI...works with some...but a lot of people have problems with it too. Also if you want to OC, you don't want to be limited by your RAM

Hrm, if the value RAM will be a problem then I guess I might have to dish out the extra cash for the fancy stuff, bah.

As for the SCSI, I don't have the card and cables yet, just don't have a specific one in mind so I didn't post anything. Hopefully I'll find a decent one soon.

Been searching around a little bit for RAM to switch in, and it looks like this one should work out rather well:

OCZ Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit

Any problems with this I might be unaware of? Everything else still lookin' good?

I think $60 for a cpu heatsink is obscene. Is it really worth it? I bought a $17 AMD recommended HSF and I felt gouged on that.

I'm getting the HSF for peanuts from a friend, otherwise I totally agree with you, haha.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it's much appreciated.

I decided to go with that OCZ I mentioned in the other post. It's not too terribly expensive and it sounds like it should get along with the mobo just fine.

Are you serious? The XP-90/120 are worth every penny.

ANY GOOD HSF is worth the money...

Unless you run your system like a chick ( STOCK )
